My LW's a bit possessed too... changes it's listening port sometimes

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

How have you got your firewall config (within LW's options) set... are you using UPnP or port forwarding?

Have you tried deleting the preferences folder? Do this with LW closed. You'll have to go through & reset all your options afterwards so if there are settings you're not sure of... make a note of them first. Instructions below

Yeah, just restart LW & see how it goes for a while. I don't know that reconfiguring your router would do much but I'm a bit clueless with routers!
If it still changes on you, post back & someone here will be able to help you out

Does your router have UPnP enabled? If not, have you manually port forwarded? Manually port forwarding will keep the listening port consistent.

Hang on I was a bit premature there. That's great if it fixes your port changing problem but as for your slow speeds... looks like Manx might be using traffic shaping. This will cause your speeds to drop. This article has no date, which is really helpful, but it suggests that this is what's happening
http://www.dyband.com/documents/CaseStudy-Mannet.pdf

There was an article too from 2004 that mentioned Manx using Sandvine, which is a package for p2p control. You might just want to give them a call & ask them whether they are employing traffic shaping & if so, whether it's just at certain times of day. Some ISPs only do this during their "peak" times.
