Download Speed!! Please Help! Hello all! I am sure you are sick of people postin comments like this, and have probably seen them thousands of time before! But i used to have a download speed of around 120 kb/s, but now i am lucky to get 20. it is extremely fruistrating, as it seemed to just happen overnight, so to speak. The same problem has happened to my mate, who is now lucky to even get 3 kb/s! Another friend of mine still is able to get the 110kb/s download. As far as i know, i haven't changed any settings, so am extremely confused as to why this has happened!!  Thank you in advance for all your help. |
Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 12. Do this simple test for us. Try to download a file from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml When you click on the file posted there, you LW client should take over the download. See how fast it downloads........and then post back. I've the slight feeling that your ISP has started to shape your bandwidth, though till now there was nothing reported about them: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm ;) |
i am in the process of downloading a file from there, and i have peaked at around 26 kb/s, but it averages at around 15 kb/s. it just seems rather bizarre that it was around 120 kb/s, then has suddenly fallen to this amount! Thanks again in advance :) |
Sounds like UK Online have started using traffic shaping. Check out update 1 in this article http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/...etwork-traffic |
thanks alot for all your help. so it seems that there is nothing i can do then. how annoying! i enjoyed songs and all taking only minutes to download, rather than days! is the only way to solve the problem to change my ISP? |
Call UK Online & find out if they only shape traffic at certain times of day. Some ISPs only do this during their "peak times"... you might be lucky:) |
