I have used Lime Wire for years on several machines, lately the connections come and go very quickly the overall speed jumps from turbo to fair to excellent minute to minute. downloads are becoming so infrequent it is not worth it anymore. What Gives?

Default current user who changed computers

Hello. I paid for LimeWire pro upgarde about a month ago. Now I am using another computer and would like to see if I can get my songs back and avoid paying a new limewire pro fee?

My Limewire is saying there is a firewall. I stopped all my security software from running and I still can't download...the firewall icon is still there.
What can I do?

G'day. I'm stumpyc from Australia. Why do I keep getting the "Awaiting Sources" message when attempting to download a file and how can I stop this occurring?

Question Linux - Upgraded to Current version, search results now lousy.

Hi,

First time poster on this Forum, so Hi to all LW Contributors ....

Have been using LW Pro for many years and for the most part trouble free and great performance. Recently however, after updating to latest version in Linux (Kubuntu 8.04), my search results for file searches has suddenly become abysmal.

Searching for generic files would normally result in plenty of multiple download sources and very quick downloads as a result (1.5Mbps). Lately however, I'm lucky to see a handful of search results and NO multiple sources. I've noticed that even if multiple sources for a file appear briefly, it quickly reverts back to one and sometimes that location disappears as well. It almost seems as though download sources are being continually found and then dropped.

Wonder if anyone else has ever noticed this and if so, were you able to overcome it and how did you do it? It's really frustrating not being able to use my favourite downloading tool....

Cheers All,
Dimal.

Confused Too much span and viruses

I've been a member since July 06. I've paid my dues, since I thought dl them for free was cheating, and it's not my thing. Then you wanted me to pay yet AGAIN for yet another update, which I refused to do. Lately, every time I try to dl a song, it either has a virus, spam, connection is invalid or corrupt. I gave up. One song messed up my computer so badly,my daughter had to fix it. Something needs to be done about whoever is dl these crappy songs on here. I'm actually afraid to use Limewire and have stopped, as much as I love it and miss it. It needs help, bigtime.

We don't want you to pay for anything. The volunteer helpers on this forum don't work for LW, or any other Gnutella client

Because LW can't control what's shared on the network (since users are free to share whatever they like - good or bad), it's kind of up to the user to be careful with what they download.
There are organisations that would love to see the end of p2p & would sabotage the network. Click on this link for more info: Fake files showing up in search results

Make sure that you check files with Bitzi before download: How to use Bitzi

And some tips here (also tips for avoiding spam): How to find music

In the end, it's up to the user to keep themselves safe Make sure that you're using a good AV program. Keep it updated & use it to scan any file that you download - before you open the file.
