Firewall Problems!!

Okay. I have a full connection to AOL, and Limewire...however my downloads say "connecting..." forever and never download. There IS a firewall pictured in front of the globe however....I configured Norton anti-virus to allow limewire to have full internet access, the windows firewall is disabled, and I don't have the AOL firewall....yet, the wall is still pictured. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling limewire, restarting, nothing is working! any suggestions? please help.

I have Windows XP, Java 1.5.0_06, Limewire 4.10, ISP is AOL, Norton Antivirus firewall, and I have a Cable Modem. I am connected at home and my internet is connected from another computer, however Limewire was working just fine until a few days ago...(it's a newer computer but Limewire worked fine for a week or so before it stopped connecting to downloads)

I have also tried to solve my problem by checking out this web site: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357 but the problem still isn't resolved.

According to your statement I assume that the other computer has a router. This router might have a built-in firewall, which would explain why you see the brickwall in front of the globe (though it wouldn't explain why it worked a couple days ago, even though you haven't changed - updated- installed anything since then...?!?).

Try to find out the name of this router and check in the thread of which you've already used some suggestions, whether it will be necessary for you to portforward. Also make sure that UPnP is enabled.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
14. Try an experiment, downld a magnet link from here & explain to us what happens in regards to speed & downld status: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

firewall problems

Add me to the list of people having problems downloading. A few days ago I had no problem -- today I keep getting an error pop-up about firewalls. I contacted my ISP, they couldn't help; I tried a System restore back to a prior date when I had no downloading probs and even went so far as to completely uninstall my AVG virus protection -- still no luck. Has anyone been able to figure what the !@#%$%%^$#@# is going on??????

firewall problems

FYI:

I just posted a prob about firewall/download problems and may have a solution.

I just uninstalled and then reinstalled LimeWire and now it seems to be working fine. Anyone having trouble may want to try that.
