IP Address

How do i find my own limewire IP Address?

birdy June 24th, 2006 07:17 PM

On the LW search page, click on the Direct Connect tab (below Keyword). You should see your IP address followed by :LW's port number. If you don't see your IP then you're probably firewalled & would heve to sort that out before you'll be able to direct connect with anyone.

Another site for finding your IP address is

How do i get my firewall off

birdy June 24th, 2006 07:36 PM

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Make sure you're only using 1 firewall & that it's set up to allow LW access
Firewall setup

Read through this sticky. It's big & has heaps of info about internal firewalls within modems & routers (see the parts about UPnP & port forwarding).
Connection problems? Check here first!

Find out whether your modem/router supports UPnP. If so, make sure it's enabled & ticked within LW's options > advanced > firewall config. Find out whether your modem/router has an internal firewall (often NAT). You might need to port forward.

(Does your modem/router support UPnP & if so did you enable it?

How can i find out

birdy June 24th, 2006 08:46 PM

If you got a manual with your router, it should be in there. If you don't have a manual, you could look on Google but you'd need to know the model of router. Have a good look all over the device, it should be written somewhere.

MCchris459 June 24th, 2006 09:03 PM

ok im 98% positive that its the linksys WRT54G

birdy June 24th, 2006 09:30 PM

This link will tell you how to enable UPnP. Don't worry that it's talking about Panasonic products!! It's a nice simple guide for UPnP;) Once you've enabled it, within LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'use UPnP' & apply. Give LW half an hour to settle down & see if the firewall disappears.

Now if that doesn't work, the next step is manual port forwarding. The link below has all the info you'll need. Just remember to set up a static IP address, you'll see the prompt on the portforward page. If you skip this step then p/f won't work. Again, once you've set it up give LW half an hour to settle down.
