Unable to download, stuck at connecting

Hi, I just downloaded limewire and I have not been able to download a file yet. Everytime I try the status says connecting... for a long time and then changes to Need More Sources. The connection is excellent, and there is NO brick wall infront of my globe. My roommate has also just got limewire and she is able to download without any problems and we are connected to the same wireless router.

Try changing port. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change listening port to another. Also beware of fake search results. See 10 000+ search results & the highest results are fake!

I cannot download either. Tried changing the port, but that didn't do anything.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. If experienced, when did this problem appear? (give details)
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection/download problem is.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
13. Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

5. Internet: 5 Mbit Cable

7. Trying from home
8. Limewire v4.12.3, Java v1.5.0_07
9. ISP: Shaw Cable

11. First time with limewire.
12. Test Worked
13. Recieved incoming this session: true

I portwarded the listening port on my router as well as on the windows firewall. My roommate didn't do anything to hers and hers works which i find odd.

I can upload as well but it usually sits at 0 and sometimes goes to 1-4.

1. Make sure you configured XP firewall to allow LW full access: Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

2. For setting up UPnP on your Linksys see the UPnP section on this thread: Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

It would help if you could answer the above questions (remember we are anonymous on this forum)!
I've at least been able to see you have some type of firewall problem. The rest is up to you. ;) :)

I might have suggested Shaw since they have been known to take measures against p2p sharing. But since one of you can connect & the other not, I am a little surprised. Perhaps the other person is stealing bandwidth away from you. Have you tried whilst they were "definitely" not using LW? Answers to the other "guessing game" questions will also be of extreme help to finding an answer to your problem. ;)

Tangerined June 27th, 2006 01:34 PM

Yes I have tried it. My computer is currently the only one on and I am not able to download still.

Myrie June 27th, 2006 03:22 PM

ye

Same problem here.

Ports already forwarded.

LW was working fine, a minute later, I search for an Audio file that has 90 users, and it just says "Connecting"...

Tried restarting my PC, no luck..

Tangerined June 28th, 2006 01:38 AM

Ok I think all the files I tried to download was just fakes or something because I kept trying and I finally got 1 that started downloading. Thanks for the help anyways.:D
