.txt Files?? hey, i've only been downloading .mp3s off limewire since i first got it.... now i need to download a .txt ... do they contain the same risk as the others files on limewire? (i.e .exes) |
It is recommended that you scan every file (regardless of what file extension it has) before openeing it. A risk evaluation for certain file extensions is rather difficult and could lead you to a wrong general P2P behaviour in regard to files. (though zip and exe files should be avoided, as they represent the greatest danger): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ht=Files+aware ;) |
ok, thanks - i think im gonna try it, and see what happens, but i definatly will scan before i open it. also, i've heard about different file sizes that have a specific KB to ensure its a virus.. could 2.9 kb be one? if not, does that mean i'm in the clear? or the file size dosent matter? |
Well, I can only tell you how I see it. Regardless of where I get a file from, how big the file is, what extension it has or what name it bears, I'll scanned it with AVG, Ewido, SpwSweeper and any other means I have just to make sure I'm as save as possible. However, there is no 100% guaranty and no-one can foresee the future and what kind of nasties the bad guys are able to develop.......;) |
