Unable to sustain downloads Hi Gurus of LimeWire, I tried to search the forum for my issue and couldnt find the same. 4give me if its not the right place or point to the right source Here is the situation. I have a Cable/DSL connection with a modest 30 KBPS speed. I select the files I need to download. LW tries to do its work at its best. Then as the night progresses, I shut down my monitor, deactivate my screensaver and go to bed assured that by morning my downloads would be complete. However every morning I find that none of the downloads have completed and LW has frozen. The interesting point to note here is that if I am sitting on the computer say for more than 6 hours using LW, it will never freeze or give any problems. Is there something that I need to do to make the d/l happen or FW also goes to sleep with me? Any help or suggestions will be of gr8 help. I use WinXP with 256MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, PIII @ 750 MHz. No issues on using LW, only that downloads dont continue after a long time of inactivity on the computer? I'm busted! Regds |
What version of Java are you using? Remove your old version & update using the offline installer here http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Also follow the advice here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...es+downloading You could also try disabling ultrapeer capabilities (tools > options > speed) & reducing the number of simultaneous downloads... cut it back to just a couple & see how it goes:) Do you have more files downloading through the night than when you're at the computer during the day? |
Hi Birdy, Thanks for your response. I've the same version of Java that came with LW. Also I have disabled "ultrapeer". I d/l the same number of files at any point of time. I read the link mentioned on computer freezing. My computer doesnt freeze. Only LW does. I can still run other apps. LW shows a white screen and doesnt refresh at all. TaskMan shows the application as running. What I'll do is try to d/l maybe 1/2 files tonight and get back tomorrow with the results. Thanx :D |
Oops... think I might have given you the wrong link before:o This thread has a lot of info about blank screen problems. Most of them are a blank screen on startup but you still might find some info to help! http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=39600 What is your Java version? Within LW go help > about LimeWire & it'll tell you. |
Hi Birdy, Thanx again for the link and prompt response. I am at work now and cant check the Java version. Will get back to you on this. And I went through the link you gave. It talks about freezing at startup. I dont have a prblm at startup. I have used it for more than 6 hours at one go without any issues. It only happens when I switch of the monitor. Anyway, I have a SiS 630 card, AGP disabled, with the latest drivers from SiS. Will try to uninstall them and use WinXP ones. Also, I have 16MB shared RAM which I think should be enough for LW. BTW, I use the Classic LW skin. Does that have something to do with this? What surprises me is that when I am sitting in front of my comp, LW works fine, when I go to sleep, it somehow just does what I do ! Thnx. Will get back to you with the info ASAP. regds |
Oh 4got to add, I d/l LW again from the website ystrday! |

Have been having the same problem the last few days. I run LW, all is well for half an hour or so and I use other programs or surf. Then when I go back to LW all I get is a blank screen. Task manager says its still running but in the processes function it shows it as using none of the processor. Has been running ok for the last few hours but has been a frustrating couple of days. Am running 4.12.3 pro. Did the same as shuvro last night and same result, LW froze. Never had too many problems before, am wondering if its anything to do with the latest version as I only installed it a few days ago. |
Hello Everyone, Good news at last :) Got LW to work the whole night and complete the d/ls. Here is what I did. I didnt make any changes with the monitor driver. I had reduced the d/l speed to 80% of my bandwidth, increased the number of simultaneous connections to 50, but d/l only 3 files. Also I had disabled Norton AV since it would give an security alert every 10 secs. for some port being accessed. I thought it would be better to run NAV after all d/ls are complete. Anyway, I didnt share any folders so that my computer will get into any trouble. Also ensure that you defrag your HD atleast once a week. Increase the cache size to atlest 3 times your physical RAM. Well hope this will continue today. Will try again tonite and let you all know if it worked and this is the solution to the problem Cheers!!! :D |
4got to mention this, I use uTorrent alongwith LW ystrday without any problems !! :D |
