Download continually regress until corrupt OK I have an XP machine with free version of limewire. It is a FRESH image of xp not even week old. I have a cable modem connection that is pretty fast for cable, insight is the company. The problem is that when I go to download ANYTHING from LW it will get to about 30% complete while connected to multipule hosts then it will move back to about 15%. It will do this continually no matter what type of file or size usually it will get to about 60% and the ******* will tell me the file is corrupt. It even happened when I downloaded LW (had to do the full install). It seems to drop the host then jump back and I know that ALL the files out there are not corrupt cause sometimes i will get lucky (maybe 1 out of 40 tries) and it will actually complete the transfer. I played with the connections settings and still no luck so Please Please help! |

Try deleting incomplete folder while Limewire is closed. Default location is c:documents and settings/*Your Username*/incomplete Also delete your preferences folder. You will have to set up Limewire again after doing this Point 2 and 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should! hope this helps |

I downloaded the newest they had on limewire.com uhh version 4.12.3 and my java version is Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_03-b07). Thanks for taking the time to help me out. What is strange is that when I first went to download it using the recomended way it would do the same thing I ended up having to download the full install version off of the site to get the installer on my pc. Possibly a ISP connection error? But I get no problems with other systems like steam that connect out to a server like LW. |

If it was your ISP somehow at fault there would be no progress for the downloads. If you try right-clicking one of the columns and choosing extended tooltips, when you hold your pointer over a download it will say how many Kbit are lost to curruption. Your JAVA version is quite old. I use v. 1.5 update 6 and it's working fine. There are some newer versions but I haven't updated yet. If it ain't broke, don't fix it . I would try updating your JAVA. Download the offline installer, then remove previous version using add/remove programs and install the new one (some say you should disconnect your internet while installing it). If there is no progress after doing that. Then do the same with Limewire. There has to be some curruption in one of the programs. When removing Limewire use the Start>Programs>Limewire>Uninstall option (add/remove programs is not good for removing Limewire) then do the steps in the post above as those files won't be deleted when removing Limewire. Download Offline installer not the recommended one and do a clean install. Believe me I know how frustrating it can be when something just won't work. I'm trying to portforward my router and get UPnP to work. Must have spent about 50 hours on it now and it's driving me bonkers |

k well this got fixed couldn't pinpoint what it was for sure but I have a hunch that it was the **** installation disk from insight. It was made easy cause a website decided to install the motherload of spyware programs to my new hard drive so it was reformat time!! SWEET! But I put everything down again on the drive and now it works perfectly. Thanks for the help Sleepless before it did go down I killed some of those files again and it still did it but it would finish the downloads more often. |

Good to hear. I find it hard to believe that a spywareprogram would mess up Limewire that badly, but a virus might. There are some nasty ones out there. This site has a lot of info and help should you encounter a similar problem in the future http://www.pchell.com/ |

Beavis (and Sleepless) Glad to hear that you got your problem sorted but, as you said, you got overloaded with spyware because you had no spyware protection. As spyware was your problem it reminded me of what happened to a work colleague of mine a couple of years ago, his browser and internet connection got "jacked" (taken over) by spyware. Now here's a thought (and this is only a theory), it could be that your internet connection got "jacked" by spyware and this jacking process might flood your connection so much that LW got strangled (squeezed out). I have no idea if my idea is correct but it could account for LW's behaviour and the corruption of your downloads. Whether my theory has any merit or not I'm still glad you came out OK. UK Bob |
