'need more sources' OUTGOING CONNECTIONS ONLY hi everyone, hope someone can help. I am having the same problem as many other users that i am unable to download any files, i keep getting the 'need more sources'. I have spent aq good few hours searching the forums and have tried all the suggestions given by others, but still i have the problem. I have however noticed that limewire is running uploads (albeit very slowly) so i only have a problem with downloading. I have checked the connections tab in limewire and have noticed that whatever connections i have are always of an outgoing status, i assume that i need to get them to be of an incoming status to be able to download. IF ANYONE CAN HELP PLEASE GET IN CONTACT Iam running a 2.2mbps dial up broadband connection XP home edition version 2002 SP2 1.40ghz pentium processor 512 ram i have run the suggested test and it says my comp is fine PLEASE HELP |
My guess is you're finding dud files in your search results. Dud files are spammed for copyright material. You'll get like 100 for one, 99 sources for the next, etc. So I'd recommend you choose those with 10 or 20 sources under the # column of the search results. Normally choose those with 3 or 4 stars as that represents your chance of a successful connection & downld. Perhaps to help get rid of some of these dud files from your search results, see Sponsored Results (click on link) & apply those terms to your keyword filter. Also, if you like downloading videos, see Movie download issues & learn to use Bitzi lookup to see if there's been user feedback on the particular file. Since you're using XP SP2, you might consider these MS & 3rd party patches |
Hey lord of the Rings, I'm having the same issue - need more sources for downloads, but uploads seem fine- What's more, i am getting mislabelled search results . I.e. am looking for episode DH24, find it, download it..but it turns out to have the wrong name and is NOT episode 24 at all, but another one... I'd like to add a comment to warn others not to waste their time but i don't know how to. Any suggestions - really frustrating spending all that time, battling with "need more sources" and all that for files you did not want in the first place! |
Yep ... use Bitzi to help warn others & also to see if there's any user-feedback for yourself; How to use Bitzi Web Lookup Of course, you can also preview the 1st part whilst downlding to make sure. |
Thanks LoR! Indeed, except i downloaded over night! Ok I did what you said with Blitzi... now the only thing is LW "needs more sources" AGHHHH! |
Search the topic again & see if you can find more sources. If the same result comes up but it doesn't start downlding, then cancel from downld window & reselect to downld. This can sometimes make it start downlding. Also try browsing host which has a similar effect. BTW do use the magnet links from Bitzi. They are not compatible with LW. |
do not use magnet links from Bitzi or DO? you wrote Do use them, but then say they are not compatible... so what links can we use if not the magnet ones? |
Don't use the ones from Bitzi ... they are intended for a different network. Besides most are very old & probably no longer available. You'd notice choosing them LW will give a ? because it doesn't seem to understand them. Use Bitzi to find reports about files. That's the main purpose of Bitzi; for people to report & find reports about particular files. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Magnet links are a good way to send files to friends. So you can create them for your own files & send them to friends. It's probably easier than direct connect. Edit: I've edited that link about Bitzi. I didn't realise I had said you could download those links. I did originally write that a long time ago. :o Those magnet links do not work with LimeWire. Sorry about that. But Bitzi is excellent for finding reports all the same. But stay tuned for newer LW releases because LW is going to experiment with BitTorrent integration. And that means links of another kind. ;) :) |
