Can't download. Constant Need More Sources. I'm also having the same problem as the people who can't download anything, although the file starts Connecting, pauses on that for a while, then goes to Need More Sources. I haven't been able to download anything since updating to 4.12.3, they all say Need More Sources, and if you try to find more, it stays at Awaiting Sources. I've tried deleting the Limewire preferance folder, to no avail, and that link with the test thing said the test worked. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) - Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? ? 3. How much ram? ? 4. Hard Disk space available? ? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.3 and Java 5.0 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? BT 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? New problem. Any help gratefully recieved. |

Okay, I've been thinking about this problem of "after update no connection, or waiting need source". What unifies you all is the fact that you seem to have used the update suggestion of your old version. I'm running 4.12.3 perfectly on my XP SP2 and I used the installer .exe dirctely from my desktop. My suggestion would be, to get a fresh start, uninstall both LW and all Java. Reboot. Go to your firewall(s) and remove all exceptions and ports implemented for LW. Try to find the Limewire preference folder and delete it as well. Be aware, there might still be the " .limewire " preference folder of your old version around. Check here on how to find and delete it: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...imewire+folder Do the same with your Incomplete and Share folder (if you have any incomplete files in there, accept them to be lost; though you might copy the Incomplete folder and store it on your desktop to try to put it back later if LW starts working). After you've done so, install the newest Java version (1.5.0._07) using the JRE offline installer (can be found here): http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp After installation reboor again. Then install LW with the installer .exe on your desktop. Then run LW. In the pop up window where you start to configurate LW (i.e. when it ask you for the language), unclick the square where it says Connect at startup. Then go to Tools>Options>Adavanced>Firewall Configuration and check what listening port is shown there. Check also whether UPnP is enabled. Then go to your firewall and open this port for LW, and also add the LW.exe (not the installer .exe) to the list of exceptions. Check here on how to do it (firewall&connection problems -click first): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=51361 After you have all done this, reboot again. Then start up LW, give it some time to settle down, then start connection and see whether the small brickwall in front of the globe in the bottom right corner will disappear after some time (can be anything from 2-45 minutes). You might have to disconnect and re-connect several times (in LW>Files...). I hope with this you all will get your LW working as it does on my computer.

I have the exact same problem... I have read foolofthehill's response and followed the instructions. I forwarded my port @ portforward.com instead and that also stopped the firewall from blocking Limewire. Even after I have disabled the firewall, nothing changed with the "Need More Sources" problem. I'm also unsure whether or not I should enable the UPnP. I currently have the "Manual Port Forward" checked (Tools->Options->Advanced->Firewall Config) Could anyone help? Thanks, -Xephyroth |

But since you said that the "portforwarding" made the brickwall in front of the small globe disappear, it means that you're not blocked, thus you've forwarded your port correctly. There is no need for you to use UPnP, since you are portforwarding. Besides if you didn't portforward, you would have to enable UPnP in your router to make it work (assuming that you use one), though some router models are not working well with UPnP. Although you say that you have the same problem, one of the users says he can download music files just fine, only video files are a problem, whereas another user here states that they can't download at all. As for the user who has problems to download large files, i would recommend him to check how much disk space he still has free. The user "Liggy" said that he uses BT Broadband connection; it is possible they they have started to implement some sort of bandwidth shaping, due to the pressure of the British music industry as wellas due to their newly offered paid music downloads. Though this is pure speculation from me. However, for you I'd recommend to re-install an older version of LW to see whether this works fine. Another P2P client would also be thinkable (i.e Frostwire, Phex, or Bearshare), just to see if you can get them running properly.
