Question Limewire Downloading Problem Slow

My ISP is Xplornet 512kbps download speed and 128kbps upload speed. My modem for the Xplornet Internet is a satellite modem called SurfBeam. That modem plugs into my router D-Link DI-604. Now when i start up limewire it connects and when it's done connecting it's either in the green end or blue the connect and the globe has no brick on it. When i download a file it takes awhile to connect to person and finaly when it connects to the person it downloads at 1kbps or 0kbps. I'm also getting this file from someone on a Cable/DSL or T1 internet connection. So i should be atleast downloading at 50kbps or 64kbps. I don't know what the problem. I know my ISP doesn't block limewire. So someone please help me!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Try downloading a file from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/audio2.shtml. The file will download in limewire.

If it only downloads at 1KB that would imply that your isp is shaping your connection.

Question It's Still At 1kbps

I'm able to download anything on my internet explorer at 64-100kbps transfer speed. So limewire should be able to atleast reach 50kbps.

ISP's can selectively filter/shape ports that p2p uses and still let you download from other internet sites. The links in this thread can explain it better that I can: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ing#post129712

You could try setting a proxy: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...3&postcount=11

Try the suggestion in foolofthehill's post here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...863#post217508

I think the only other option is to change isp's. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

@ hott_stuff,

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

What router/modem are you using? Most have firewalls in them that need configuring also. See: Connection problems? Check here first!

You should also provide your details: System details - help us to help you

@ ProTurbo,

I did some searching and think it's your isp. Try calling them and ask if they are blocking or traffic shaping file sharing programs(though they may not say). Your only option maybe to switch isp's.

Here is what they had to say: XplorNet Support Team......

Unlike a cable or DSL connection, your satellite-based connection uses
shared bandwidth, such that the number of users currently connected to the
system can affect speeds. One may in which Xplornet (and many other ISPs)
works to combat this is by limiting the type of traffic being sent over the
network, and this is done by assigning lower priority to torrent and
peer-to-peer traffic.

There are not to many things that we could do about this issue, you could
upgrade your package again and try that out, but other then that there is
not to many things you could do.

Our server is setup to limit this type of traffic because it is hard on
bandwidth,You should be able to download things, but file sharing programs
may be interfered with your speed downloading.

I got _ucked big time.

No other ISP in area

What to do..??
