Download Problem

Hi,I have been using an older version of LW 4.10 for quite a while without any downloading problems whatsoever.I just upgraded to the newer 4.12.4 version and for some reason I am having trouble downloading certain files.I can download mpg,jpg and a a few mp3 files. It seems like the program chooses which mp3 file it will download.I can select the file to download and if it is going to do so it starts almost immediately and if not it stays in the connecting mode for quite awhile and then shows need more source's.I have tried multiple files with the same name and once in a great while it will download one of them.I never had this problem with the old version only when I upgraded to the newer version. All of the connection bars are green the brickwall is in front of the planet.I went in and changed the firewall settings to allow Gnutella and even turned it of without any change.I don't think it is a firewall problem because I can download the mpg & jpg files without any problem.I upgraded java to JRE 1.5.0_07 I have windows xp sp2, 160 gb hd with 120gb freespace,1gb memory with 847mb freespace, dsl connection with bellsouth as isp provider and a Intel537ep v9df modem.Any suggestions as to what to check. Thanks

Try having a look at this thread. You are probably just using the wrong phrases when searching, making a lot of spamresults that don't download appear

How to find music :)

Thanks for the advice Sleepless but I have always performed my searches in the manner you suggested.I have been using LW for quite a long time and learned the hard way some of the things you posted.I'm really at a loss with this problem seeing how I never had it until I upgraded to the 4.12.4 version.I even tried to restore my computer to an earlier date in hopes of retreiving my old 4.10 version but unfortunately the files were already modified and the only thing that it changed back to 4.10 was the desktop icon.I even did a computer search in hopes of finding the files but all versions I found were
4.12.4. Maybe it's just having a couple of bad days like we all do.I really appreciate your response though.

I used it for a while yesterday (The 4.12.3Pro that is) with no problems what-so-ever. Did you by any chance use the online installer when updating. Some have been having trouble with it.

Was the brick wall there too in your old version ?
Are you using Pro or Basic ?

Here are some fixes for Limewire that you could try

Try a clean install

Remove Java using the add/remove programs and limewire through start>programs>Limewire>uninstall

Then remove all traces of limewire (not your shared folder off course :D )
preference folder and incomplete folder. Do a windows search to see if there is anything left (splashscreen etc.)

Download the offline installers of both Limewire and Java (if you remember what version Java you were using before the upgrade, then try that one first)

Java

Limewire

install Java first (some advise to disconnect from the internet while doing it)

Sleepless, thanks for the advice but that was the first two things I tried when this problem first occured.Neither one helped at all.The only reason I tried that was because I had a problem with a program a long time ago and the suggestion was to do a clean install one step at a time and see if that corrected the problem after each step.In that case it corrected the problem so that's what I tried first thing when this problem popped up.I even tried doing it using a different administrator but to no avail.I tried a couple of downloads late last night and it seemed to work a slight bit better than it has been for the past few days.I'm just not sure what's going on with it!

Well I'm at a total loss .I just logged onto LW and punched up six downloads to try and to my amazement all six started to download:eek:.I'm not sure what happened between lastnight and today but right now for some reason it seems to be working like it used to:).Hopefully it will stay on this path and continue doing what it's supposed to do:D.Thanks for all the suggestions and I'll keep you informed if anything changes (which I hope doesn't happen)

Starting to sound more like an ISP problem then ;)
