really slow
 

this is my first post here so i hope i am posting correctly.
i recently bough a brand new computer and whenever i download anything, it seems to go extremely slow. This is not just for limewire. When i downloaded AIM, it even went 6 KB/s. Before downloading anything went 60 KB/s or even as fast as 100 KB/s. Not it mainly stays at 6 KB/s. I am using Verizon DSL. the memory of the computer is 3 GB and the hard drive is 250 GB. Is it just the computer?
