LW acting Slow and stalling out etc.

LW version: 4.9.30pro
Java 1.5.0_03
I also have D/L the newest version but am not using it until I get this issue solved.

Let me first thank those who reply and in some cases I'd like to thank those who do not reply, I think you all will understand.

When I open LW it consumes 100% of my resources so I have to use/open it when I am not doing other things on the computer.

I am having issues with the following:
I can't preview with in LW. I have to go to me D/L folder and use my media player.

When I open LW and select a file to D/L I click on the file and it takes several seconds to a minute or so before the file line is highlighted and if the program doesn't hang up and force me to close it out completely it may start down loading. A lot of times I click on a file and it, the program, doesn't do anything, it won't let me select that file. If I leave that file and later go back to it to select it may or mostly may not let me select it at that time, but sometimes, very seldom, it will. I've noticed this mostly with video files.

Why is it that I have to go to task manager to physically close out LW. when I x LW out my resources are still being consumed unless I go to T/M.

Lately most of the files, video, that I D/L when played back or viewed they start and stop, mostly stop while the progress bar seems to advance the picture doesn't. Not sure if this is an issue with my system, the fact that the program itself is starting and stopping or if it is the way the file was uploaded. When I play some of the new files they are fine and when I play previously D/L files and files I have collected on my own they play fine.

So here is the 64.00 dollar question, what is going on with my LW? I hope I haven't gone out of protocol on my post, some groups are finicky. If I have it's only out of ignorance and not intentions.

Thanks for your valuable time:
Lee B.

Some people do find LW is resource hungry on their particular systems. But then 2 identical computers bought at the same time from the same shop can behave quite differently.

1. May I suggest you try updating your Java. If you are willing to, install the Java 1.6 beta which has had good reviews. However, LW will not use it if there's earlier versions of Java on your computer so you'd need to remove those 1st. http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB download.

2. Do install the newer version of LW because it's suppose to use slightly less resources. If necessary, keep a backup of your previous version.

3. If you're sharing a large no. of files (eg: more than 2,000), perhaps try reducing that number to see if it helps with the running of LW.

4. If you have many, many incomplete files, you might be better to delete those that are zero % or less than 50 KB. This can greatly reduce the resources LW uses. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (this description is by a mac user but same principle applies.)

5. Personally, I preview files via the incomplete folder, not via the download window. This means no Preview files are created in the incomplete folder. These can take up considerable space if not deleted. So instead, I go to the Library window, click on the incomplete folder, select the incomplete file & press Launch. I use VLC - (click on link) player for this purpose. I often recommend VLC because it has in-built codecs & is generally very reliable. It also can play most audio format, dvds, vcd's, audio & video streaming, etc. ;)
