I got tired of downloading at the breakneck speed of 3kb/s and I thinks to meself, maybe I could fork out a few bucks and get pro. So I did

After installing and testing it out, it remained at 3kb/s, a few times it reached 4kb/s.

My internet connection is via Earthlink (DIAL-UP) and at this moment i'm connected to the internet at 28.8 kb/s.

Lime wire has not detected a firewall (I turned it off) and it says "Your Connection to the network is extremely strong."

Is it possible for me to Download faster than 3kb/s on Modem?

If there is no way to increase speed then I will strongly consider getting Satellite Internet or DSL.

Because you have dial up, you're never going to see a fast download speed. Even if you're using Pro. Check out Grandpa's post below... it's got some good tips for dial up users to get the best out of LW

If you want to see a download speed higher than 6-7KB/s you're going to have to get a faster connection

To be honest I think you are better off getting DSL, as a friend of mine had Limewire on dial up and was lucky to get 3KB/s whilst downloading...She now has Broadband and it is alot better...

You could try configuring LW to achieve faster downloads, but in my opinion it would be a waste of time as you may gain a KB or two...

But this is only my opinion, others may offer some fixes...

I used to have AOL 56.6kb and I would only get 5kb/s and occasionally 6kb/s and 7-11 kb/s on really small files (Under 1000kb).

I switched to Pro too, no help but I recently upgraded to Comcast cable and now my speeds are so fast you wouldn't believe it.

I suggest you make the switch.

I agree with what everyone else said, but you should turn your firewall back on and configure it to allow LW access to the internet.

After reading the replies made in response to the thread I checked out the link birdy provided.

Therefore if my connection is 28.8kbps / 8 = 3.6kps
I then accepted the fact that I was never going to reach higher
dl speeds ...I cried.

By Wednesday I'm getting satellite internet.
Unfortunately I'm living in a rural area and no DSL is available.

The connection speed is (according to the version I opted for) is:

700kbps download speed
128kbps upload speed

You might want to check with your ISP & see what their policy on p2p use is. Remember, you're going from a very slow connection to a faster one & there's often a different policy for different internet connections!
Some people have had trouble using p2p with their satellite connection... some ISPs apply traffic shaping to control bandwidth use.
It would be worth checking, just so that you don't get a nasty surprise later
You could always use Google to search for your ISP & see if they have a fair access policy... this should give you some idea if bandwidth's shaped (often, people on the help desk aren't aware of this happening).

As soon as I get a chance on the new connection I'll check the policy.

I looked up the fair access policy relating to the company/service plan

According to the policy, I can download x amount before FAP policy is initiated, after which the connection speed will go down to 56k dial-up mode,
and it takes about 6-8 hours for FAP to be lifted. Choosing to continue downloading will result in a constant 56k connection speed since recharging begins when your connection is either idle or turned off.
