Yes. But it depends upon your download capacity. If you have a high speed connection then that will definitely promote multiple downlds. But if you're a dial up modem user, one at a time is recommended.

Go to your LW menu bar, Tools>Options>Downloads & check the slots that are specified. You need more than one slot for multiple downloads; one slot for each downld. ;)
