Installed a router, downloads speeds are 1/3 of what they were

Hi, I have DSL and I am running windows XP. I installed a router today (Linksys WRT54G) and I have noticed my download speeds onm the Gnutella network are only about 1/3 as fast as they were. I usually use bearshare, but when I saw the 4th light was yellow, and wanted to rule out a software problem, I decided to get Lime Wire Pro but I am still having slow download speeds. I am running 4.12.3 Pro. Another thing to note is that regular downloads (not p2p) are as fast as they ever were. There must be a setting on the router somewhere that is causing the speed to slow, but I just need some help on figuring out what it may be.

Thanks for any help!

You will probably need to use portforwarding for your new router

Instructions on how to do this are here

www.portforward.com

If you still have problems after going through that guide then post back in this thread

Wow, cool site. Well it fixed my problem with BearShare, I get full speed on DLs now. However, when I set up one for LimeWire, it actually got slower:confused: . I double checked my settings and they seem to be good.

Is the listening port and the one you forwarded in Limewire the same number

It has to be

Also if you run bearshare at the same time or/and use the same number for both it might not work

The port i forwarded to is the one that was the listening port for limewire. It was not the same as the bearshare one if that is what you are asking.

I meant in Limewire tools>options>advanced>firewall config

The number in the listening port and the number in the box beside forward port (which I suppose you checked) have to be the same number (the one you forwarded for Limewire in your router)

I also meant clashing between bearshare and Limewire but guess we can rule that out

Just trying to rule things out

Gotcha. Ok I did not have the manual port forward checked. So i checked that radio button and it is faster, but still only about half as fast as bearshare. It is the same as the listening port.

UPNP is what I it was on before I changed it to manual, so that is not it either.

Thanks.

Is the firewall icon gone (the brick wall in front of the globe) ?

If it is then you have at least properly configured Limewire and the problem might be differences in the Limewire and BearShare software and not setup

Also if running XP with service pack 2 then you should try to run this patch

Thanks. The firewall icon is gone, and it was there before i set up the port forward. Also I am running xp 64bit that is fully up to date with SP1.
