Your best bet is to change your ISP to one that does not have an anti-P2P policy.

Yeah... easier said than done. We live in a location where it's either DirecWay or dialup. It was working great for years, then when they suddenly added this server authentication a couple weeks ago, they obviously also added this compulsory P2P throttle. What sucks is that they're saying 'because it could violate the fair access policy'. We just read this tonight. So, without even violating their fair access policy, they punish us by throttling any P2P connection because it 'might' violate it. Is this legal? How in the hell can they do this legally? Seems like some commie bs to me

Your ISP's attitude towards P2P may seem to you like commie BS, controlling what you do, but I would say to you that it is very capitalist because you are still paying the same monthly subscription for a lesser service.

I am having the same trouble.. 1-2kb/s.. This is crazy... I took my laptop to a hotel that has broadband and I had 100kb/s downloads.... I cannot wait until the BPL - Electric Lines Broadband... It will kill direcway and can't wait... The problem is we cannot shop for broadband because of the distances.. Oh well.. I get off my soapbox.... WE ALL NEED MORE BROADBAND OPTIONS... It will help us all with cost...

steve2mh, yes, you're right... DirecWay IS doing it. I hate that we have to have our service changed, modified or whatever you want to call it, when we're right in the middle of our contracts and paying a lot of money for their service (or lack thereof). It sucks! And like you, I too tried another P2P program with the same slow results. And I recently stayed in a hotel and used their wireless connection with LimeWire and it worked like it used to at home. It just flew.
I'm guessing we're the first of many having a fit over this. I'm sure this will become an issue in the not too distant future. Not even sure it's legal. But knowing how sneaky DirecWay is, they probably have their behinds covered.
In the meantime (while waiting for our WiFi tower to be finished), I'll be on the lookout for sites and addresses to ftp from to download mp3's, like in the old days. Hahah
LimeWire ought to come out with a browser version. Might bypass all these problems. Who knows though...

Just when I was about to give up all hope, I decided to try SoulSeek. And it works! I used to use SoulSeek way back in the day and always loved it. LimeWire works better, of course. But not if my ISP (the a-holes at DirecWay) are blocking it. So, if anyone's frustrated and has DirecWay, try SoulSeek. It works a helluva lot better when you donate (5 bucks for 35 or so days). Not too shabby. Better than not having a connection.
