Default Slow Movies, Fast Music

This has been a reoccuring problem. If I download music it downloads around 22/24 sometimes more. But when i download videos, they are around 1/7. Everyonce in a while it jumps up but rarely. Whats causing this? Also, I ran one of those pc speed tests one of the links on here suggested and it came saying i could do 240kbps. i know that i probably cant get downloads taht fast but i think i should be able to get my downloads faster then 24... what should i do about that, ive been throuh that one thing telling me to move those slides on the download and upload option, but taht didn't seem to work.

the number you get from the speed test you have to divide by 8. Also there has to be room for messages

The speed for the uploads -5 KB/s for messages

Your limewire of course has to send and get messages about the downloads. This isn't http where you get the whole file from one server.

That's why you have to set uploadspeed about 5 KB/s below the max and why you are only getting very slow speeds on video. A videofile is a lot bigger than a music file. This means there are many more messages sent when you download a videofile.

I'm not really in the know of how Gnutella works (the network that Limewire is on) but it is useally a file is made into pieces (the bigger the file the more pieces) which then are split up even more into blocks

Try google or something if you need more info on how Limewire works

If you set your uploadspeed to high then your downloads suffer from it. That's all you really need to know.

BTW speeds are often a bit slower on videofiles, but not that slow

A couple more points: A large % of videos come from those who access other networks. eg: ShareAza. ShareAza users are reknown/infamous because of their use of 2 or more networks at one time, meaning they offer only miserly upload speeds on Gnutella. This may only be one reason for slow video speeds. Another may also be because video files take much longer to downld so slots are taken up for much longer & also those with videos tend to be more popular for downlding from. The same is true for me. Despite sharing a couple of thousand audio files, my small no. of video files almost always take up my upload slots & queues. As the point the others made, some people may also have too many upload slots & thus their upload speeds get shared too thinly. For audio files which finish quickly, this isn't such an issue.

AFAIK this is one of the ways the gnutella network works. For those rarer files or less than common files, requests for such a file will queue up. This happens more-so to video files because they take longer to downld leaving other people on the wing. Their requests accumulate & are then centered toward those who have the file. My understanding of this is but that's the way it seems to be. Some requests may even be old ones & not necessarily real-time. What this equates to is more difficulty in connecting to the larger files such as video files & more difficulty in getting slots for such which may mean not getting optimum slots for speed. But I don't know.

If your Limewire really is configured to optimum performance then no... Well not on the files you are currently downloading at least.

If you had a faster connection then buying Pro and trying to reach Ultrapeer status might have helped.

But with a slow connection there is not really much that you can do other than configuring Limewire to the max

Some legit files have more than a few hosts, but if you are going to try that remember to use Bitziweb lookup to check if the files are really what they say they are

right-click on searchresult and choose lookup file with bitzi
