recently started getting lots of "need more sources" results Hi, Y’all make this all sound easy and I ‘m sure it is. I have been using Limewire successfully for a year or so and understand the basics. I am running windows 2000 with a moderately fast machine from my home. I have just switched from dialup to DSL broadband, my machine says it is connected at 100 Mbps. I have version LW 4.12.6, I just ran the fix update a few days before switching to DSL I am getting some really good download speeds compared to the past up to 50 Kbps (was 5 at best) My problem is that I am getting tons of “need more sources” messages. I guess a ratio of 1 successful to every 15 tries, no rime or reason some times it has been 5 out of 5 successes then bunches of “N.M.S” messages. I am only selecting 4 star listings and usually cable/DSL and above. I get the messages even if I select a download while Limewire is still searching. Most files I try are of old or obscure music. I have been reading lots of the posts on this issue, the N.M.S. are coming from single and multiple source results. I almost always search by artist and select files that appear to be normal sized for MP3 music files. I only try MP3 files. I think my firewall is OK, I did the test and see that my IP is (70.246………. . not sure that I should post it here) I have very old music shared and not many hits but I see that on one there is 1 hit and 1 download after switch to DSL. Am I missing something here? ????????????????? Sorry to be a dope but I need help to get going in the right direction. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, rockboy2001 |
If you press the direct connect tab. do you see your IP and limewire listening port or does it say you are behind a firewall? Also is there a brickwall in front of the globe in the lower left corner ? Could be just pure bad luck Getting spamresults on the files with many hosts or the single host you are downloading from goes offline or has a unreliable connection Try looking through this guide: How to find music :) |
If these files you're seeking are popular & copyright then there will be lots of fake files spammed out there & you'll never be able to downld them: Recognising fake files. One of these types of fake files, would open your browser & send you to a site. But LW 4.12 prevents them doing that, but you still end up with NMS if attempting to downld those. The links will show how to recognise most of them. |
First Thanks for responding! Sleepless: What/ where is direct connect tab? Don't see that? Do you mean under the file tab at the top? Yes, I am behind fire wall but I think that is OK. I have recieved several (20 -50 so far)good results where I was able to d/l good files, mixed with the NMS ones. Woulden't a firewall issue keep me completly away? I don't know that I should completly discount this as an issue because this is the first firewall experiance I have had. I can relate to the BAD LUCK but this problem is pretty new, I have been a power user and found lots of files, but this is way more than in the past. Most NMS have been from single host results. I have redone the search and they are still there so I do not think they are due to host dropping off line. LOTR: I had looked at most of the info before I sent this post but one question I have was about the ...preciding the MP3 colum issue. I have seen some of them but they look like the file name was just to long and was shortened? is that what the spammers wanted me to think? I posted a question on that post but not sure if you will see it (still trying to figure all of this Fourms use out)(Like should I be copying and quoting your origional responces in this post? I want to make this easy and follow correct procedure) Thanks for helping and I will review all the links again to make sure I am not missing something. rockboy2001 |
1 Attachment(s) From single hosts then not such a problem. But if you're searching & get multiple thousands of search results with say 100 or one individual file, 99 or the next, etc from the same search, then they are most likely fake. The ... before the extension is only one type of fake file. As far as firewalls go, if you see a brick wall as shown here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=61028 then it will affect you in some regards at least. You won't be able to direct connect, sharing will will very difficult, some hosts will be more difficult to connect to. Also some people ban/block those they can't browse so you would be in that boat & never able to connect to them. Direct Connect is a type of search as compared to the normal keyword search. Thanks, Lord of the Rings. Looks like I need to study the firewall aspects and learn some more. I sure appreciate your help. rockboy2001 |
