134.4 kb files... What are those 134.4 kb files you see when you search for songs? What are these exactly? I accidently clicked one, and it appeared on downloading section, but it didn't start downloading though. I checked Limewire folder and no files there downloaded, only in the incomplete. Is this some sort of tracker or nothing to worry about? |
It's spam Allthough be careful because people/organisations that spam the Gnutella Network might also collect stats on who downloads You might be interested in reading through this Guide I made. The 134.4 KB files are addressed there too ;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=56904 |
Do other spam have same file size or is 134.4 kb the most common one? And what stats does it really do on what you do? And how could you get rid of it? And would I if I am downloading? And thanks for the FAQ, I read the section 5. But please answer above questions too^^. |
The only way to get rid of it is learn how to search. That guide addresses a lot of those issues. Try applying these methods and see the difference What I was saying about taking stats. Limewire does not collect stats but there are other organisations that try to bring the network down because of the widespread sharing of copyright works. They are for the large part the ones that are doing the spamming. They might be collecting stats as well on who tries to download their files. That's why you should be careful when searching. Also in that guide is more info on who is spamming the network. Just follow the links in the guide. Oh and there is spam in all sizes, but the most common one when searching for music is the 134.4 one |
Ah, okay. But even if they did collect the stats, nothing will happen if I am not uploading files right? I guess what I'm trying to ask is, "what should I be "careful" about?" |
All depends on where you live. It's safer to not share anything, but that defeats the purpose of file sharing. Sharing a few files will most likely not get you caught. They usually go for the large scale sharers that share hundreds or even thousands of songs, movies or programmes. Remember that not sharing anything is the same as admitting they won :nono: |
lol Okay, thanks for the info. |
Ah Sorry to ask again! But what did you mean by "All depends on where you live." |
Lets just say that if you live in the US then keep your shared count low. You know the home of the RIAA and MPAA. If you by some miracle don't know who they are just use the Forum Search or Google. Almost all file sharing related cases and lawsuits are in the US |
