Default Downloaded Video-no sound

I downloaded a video off limewire and the picture was there but no sound. The quicktime player says that some component is missing and it may be a codec problem but I don't know what codec to download. Does it matter what the video is of? It is computer graphics, so maybe that has something to do with it? Please help me out. Thanks

It means you're lacking the codec to play it properly. Instead of using QT player, get this one as it has in-built codecs & is very reliable: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

After trying it out, you may want to make it your default. If you're using windows, see Setting Default video app. But if you're using mac, let us know & I'll explain.

Click on the link below for info about various codec packs (sorry, I don't use Quicktime) & also VLC player...it's free & has codecs installed:wink:
If you want to try it, just choose the nearest mirror for download.

I had a suspicion you were a mac user (using QT player.) There's a few techniques. One is to select a video file, command i (or go to File menu & choose Get info), then change the Open with to VLC. And then click the Change All. Another technique is to Control-click the video file & choose VLC. I think the other technique is better.

You should do this with AVI, divx, & perhaps also mpg/mpeg files. Although I use QT Player as default for mpeg 2 because I have pro with the mpeg 2 decoder/encoder.

To see details about how to do it, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=default+video

There's an example for video. But there's also an example for iTunes with audio which shows the information window clearly.
