I am new to this LimeWire downloading stuff. Now if a song i wanted shows no license, is it ok to still download it anyways? If not, how or where can i find one with a license that is safe to download?

Most music files that are released onto CD have a copyright attached to it...
It is up to you if you wish to download these or not...
The lisence statement will show up if you have selected to show Lisence in tools > options > searching...

ok, i've checked the make sure there are licenses part but the songs i want still don't show one. i'd like to only download the songs with one, that way i know it's ok to download it. think maybe i'll just go back to using Ares again since this program is not giving me what i actually wanted.

I see, and when you download those files (protected by copyright laws) with Ares, that will make them legally obtained......
Could you try to get a confirmation about this from the RIAA (if you're in the US; and maybe from the MPAA) and post it here.
I'm sure there are a lot of members who would love to have this "guaranty"...
