hackers

Hi :) this is the first time ive left a message i was wondering if someone could help me out. The problem i Have is a close friend gave me her partners hard drive on which she had found some partially downloaded mpeg files they were pornographic in nature and while she said there were no children in the bit she had seen all the file names listed children in there titles. My problem is this her partner when confronted with this claimed it must have been the work of hackers/spyware or something he had downloaded with one torrent or a nother but ive checked the location of these files and they are in limewires incomplete folder and when i started searching on his limewire i was able to find all the files while not a complete idiot when it comes to repairing pcs not always to good with the internet but to the best of my knowledge its not possible for limewire to say it is downloading something with out some sat in front of the computer. Thanks for any help:confused:

i've seen that sometimes while downloading a file i have read a file name to download and once it finished the actually filename was different. and sometimes people will throw in almost every term they can fit so some people dont know what the acutual file will contain

wondering why October 8th, 2006 02:01 AM

Sometimes Porn can have spyware and stuff attached to it....
If you download a virus file it can produce a heap more files, especially zip, exe and that type of thing...
Have a look at this thread and investigate his file sizes, he very well could be telling the truth...

Computer Forensic Expert

To determine whether someone has been downloading illegal material you will need a computer forensic expert but these people are quite expensive but I believe they have the necessary utilities/tools needed to tell you, with any kind of certainty, what someone has been up to with their PC.

That is correct unless that PC has been infected by a virus or worm.

However, it is unlikely that a virus, worm or whatever would put anything into the "Incomplete" folder, any malware would deposit files in the "Shared" folder in order to stand a better chance of spreading to other user's PCs.

Finally, to make sure that this individual's HD is not infected with something that may be planting rubbish on his PC you should run an AV, Ewido anti-spyware along with Adware SE and Spybot. If they all come up clean then it is more than likely that this person may have been downloading stuff his partner finds objectionable.

PS. I must admit that I find this kind of investigation somewhat distasteful, if one partner has problems with the other then they should sort their problems out between themselves. Calling in a third party, unless absolutely necessary, seems to be all wrong.
