Unhappy no mountable file systems

I switched off my ibook last night only to start it up this morning to find that I'd lost my desktop settings and amongst others, Limerwire had gone AWOL.

I've tried to reinstall Limewire but get the 'no mountable file systems' message. This also happened when I tried to install Flash player.

Can anyone tell me what's happened. I've just rebooted and again I've lost my personalised settings. Could it be that I've picked up a virus?

FYI I'm running OSX 10.3

Try rebooting whilst holding down the SHIFT key for a safe boot. Then go to Utilities folder & open Disk Utility. Repair permissions. Then reboot normally. See if that helps. If not, reboot using the OSX install disk & repair disk using Disk Utility from that disk.

You didn't drop or knock the iBook did you. Sounds like something's become corrupted for some reason.

BTW there are no OSX viruses.
