downloading slow

hi everyone,
im new to limewire and im not very clever on computers so i was hoping someone could help,
earlier on i was downloading songs from limewire at about 60 kbps..
but now its down to like 10..ive not changed any settings and im downloading popular tunes..so im downloading from say 8 hosts at a time and its still running really slow ..

has anyone any idea why this is..

thanks

also

i was wondering if limewire music files could have slowed my computer down, because it just seems strange that after downloading 100 or so songs all of a sudden its started downloading real slow.
could it be that i have downloaded so many songs that is clogging up my limewire settings?

Speeds are generally due to the hosts you're downloading from. So this speed can vary. Sometimes one of the faster hosts you're downlding from might have shared with a few more people so their bandwidth available to you is less.

But the problem might also be ISP related. Try an experiment with downloading a magnet link from here & see if it's consistent speeds: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

It's from a site so speed should be very fast & consistent. If not, particularly if it starts off fast but then drops to very, very low, then your ISP is shaping you (filtering your speeds whilst you're using LW.)

I didn't see your last post when I posted. You could try closing & re-opening LW to see if you have same problems.

Are you using DSL or ADSL? ie: are your download speeds affected by your upload speeds? If yes then it's DSL. If not, then it's ADSL. eg: dial up modem users are DSL so to speak. But some high speed plans are also DSL.

im lost

ive been online for a while but i have only started downloading stuff recently so im pretty green,
the stuff you said makes no sense to me..lol

what should i download from that site you suggested??

the scene eposide 1??

filtering your speeds whilst you're using LW.) what does that mean mate??

as i said im pretty green so sorry if im asking stupid questions

i am adsl its ment to be 8mb broadband..but im only getting about 500kbps i think

when i try

when i try to download from that site it says external protacol mate and then says an external application etc etc if that makes sense

I don't understand what you said. Any file from that site is fine. Preferable one that takes 10 mins or more so you can see if your speed drops.

Some ISP's have special programs that can detect p2p sharing programs. They will filter that person's bandwidth for that p2p program. So they only get slow speeds. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work against Gnutella network: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing.

ah,,
sorry mate,i got you now..i didnt realise that the downloads from that webpage ran in limewire..it was just saying its opening a program.

i understand you now.
when i call my ip tomorow should i bring this point up with them?

ps im in uk not usa..so can they do that in uk also?

im trying it on steve windwoods behind the scenes 2004..
the file is 102,196kb it started at 50kb im at 18 % and its at 42 kb now if that makes sense..

is that ok for downloading from magnet site and if not what should it be if im supposed to be on 8mb adsl broadband..

many thanks mate and thanks for your patients its much appreaciated

Lord of the Rings October 24th, 2006 03:40 PM

Tell us if it drops below 30 KB/s

For UK ISP's that filter, see #8 here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

Who is your ISP?

tonyq123 October 24th, 2006 03:52 PM

yep just checked it mate..
im with pipex which use tiscali and they both shape psp so i guess i cant do much about it..

if i called up and complained i guess it would be pointless right?
