If nowhere near the end of the 20 GB limit, then keep searching for sources. Speeds are usually dependent on the hosts. So re-searching the same files will normally help dramatically. Also beware of who you are downlding from. If you see it's a RAZA user for example, then don't be surprised to get slow & unreliable speeds. You can right-click the top of the download window headings to choose to show Vendor/version so you can see this. You can do the same for the search window. RAZA = ShareAza, which is a multi-network program that leeches off the gnutella network. It often uses most of its upload capacity on other networks. ![]() |

![]() Hi, Thanks for replying so soon. I have only used about 10GB this month. I never use it all. People Telecom is a different ISP to Telstra Bigpond. I have read your interesting advice on other threads on sources. I stay way from the ones with heaps of sources as they are usually fake files, i always wondered about that (IT REALLY ANNOYED ME) and i now check files with Bitzi. The files im trying to download have a solid amount of sources 30+ and usually 9 or 10 hosts. I will also look out for RAZA users, i didnt know that. I just checked the hosts and most of them are on Bearshare and LimeWire. What else could this be? There appear to be lots of people with this problem. I'm really stumped with this one. Thanks. |

![]() Try an experiment, try downloading a magnet link from here & tell us what happens in regards to connecting & speeds, etc.: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml If you mean many people, well millions of people use LW so really it's not that many. LW gets downloaded almost a million copies a day. BTW I have half your bandwidth but I average 15-20 GB/month. That's why I suggested checking just in case. ![]() |

![]() No. I just meant that i see lots of people have mentioned this problem in these forums. In contrast to the total number of LW users, this would only make up a very small amount of users with this problem. I'm at work at the moment so i got speeds of 108kb/s for that link. My other downloads are fine at work as well. (Shouldn't be downloading at work, dont tell anyone). So the problem only happens at home. Weird. Does this shed some more light on the issue? I will try that link when i get home as well and let you know what happens. Thanks. |

![]() Do a speed test also (but with LW closed), choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/ |

![]() You're quoting your speed in bits per second. Remember divide kbits by 8 to give you bytes per second. So really your download speed is only about 8 KB/s. I think you're being shaped. Nothing to do with LW, you're losing all-round internet speed for everything. With a 512 kbps plan you should be getting around 50-55 KB/s (kilobytes) in a speed test. Your upload speed seems consistent though. Question is where are you losing your speed. Is it equipment or ISP. Since you said the previous week you were getting 50 KB/s, then something has suddenly gone astray. I suspect the problem is your ISP shaping you. Recheck your plan. Are you "sure" you have a 20 GB/mth plan. I suspect you've made a mistake & you're actually only on a much lesser plan like 8 or 10 GB or possibly less. |

![]() I am definetly on a 20GB plan. I checked my plan last night. I also checked my usage last night and i have used just over 13GB. I was on hold to People Telecom for 90 mins last night then they cut me off. Im furious with them. I HATE these incompetent ISPs. After the speed test, i suspected my ISP may be screwing me so i called them. With the length of the queue to get through to tech support, i suspect im not the only one. It appears to be an ISP issue as i used the same laptop at work and got very high download speeds. I'm releived this is not a LW issue. I'm going to call them tonight and give them hell. I really appreciate your help. Thank you. |
