I have cable internet, which is really fast and good ram...everything runs fast on my computer except for download speeds on lw. I am usually running 1 kb/s. Every once in a while i creeps to 2kb/s, but thats rare...

I have tried the whole "show only 4 stars" and the such, but nothing seems to work. Is there anything else i could possibly do to help me get fast download speeds? lw is the primary reason i upgraded to cable internet..... but if its gonna take 3 hours for a 1 meg download then.....

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. latest lw, java 1.5.0_08
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? charter

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. ive used it before on past computers, but first time on this one
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? no

Have you tried any other p2p apps & if so, do you see the same slow download speeds?
Charter have a section in their Acceptable Use Policy where they say they'll adjust a customer's account if they seem to be using an excessive amount of bandwidth...could that apply to you?

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW,s closed...see if that makes any difference. Points 2 & 3 in the thread below

Is yours an internal modem? Do you connect to any external device?

firstly, your computer is not all that great...considering the OS (Me) and ram you specify I'm guessing you're running a PIII or similar clocked at ~800MHz...this actually shouldn't affect your download speeds, but will definitely affect your ability to play let's say a recently encoded XviD file...

secondly, get a firewall NOW!...using a computer online these days without a firewall is like walking outside NAKED!...and of course you need a good anti-virus scanner also...

the test (download of a file from magnetmix I assume) not working is not a good sign...you should get some decent speeds off of those...

go here: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ and download the version for 98/Me, install it, update it, and see if that helps..you just may be experiencing 'attacks' from paid shills of the MAFIAA
