Lightbulb LW.., I Find hosts >7, but still download Very slow!

i'm a long time Limewire user.., i downloaded tons of files, speed was perfect even better than some download accelerators!

but for a few weeks now, i can't get over 10 or 15KB! i get average of 6 hosts sometimes 10 but still not more than 5 or 6 KB per file!
till i loose the connection all together!!!

i'm not firewalled, i port forwarded my Port 4256 and also GNutella 6346
my router D-Link 502T... Upnp enabled

My Connection is DSL 256/64 kbps, i already changed the TCPIP.sys to 50 connections....WindowsXP_SP2
my download speed is okay, 20-25KB/s

Help Will be Mostly Appreciated.

Thanx

If you have forwarded a port then use that and not UPnP. This may very well be the root of your problem.

Just change the firewall options in Limewire to manual. Then fill in the same port that you forwarded. Use that port for listening port as well

Cool

Now i lost connection all together! i'm realy stuck here!!

i went to my isp today, told them the problem..i thought they blocked ports or something!!!..anyway, they said they refresh my port, whatever that means!! anyway did'nt beleive them.

so...here's my new situation:-

My LW connection status is always "Starting Connection"

i can't see port "6346,7,8" open, thier closed, i check LW listening ports like "58900" and it's open, so i guess with "6346" closed i can't connect to Gnutella network!

i tried other P2P appliocations..same prob, can't connect to
Gnutella 1&2!
i port forwarded them all...is it windows!

It really sounds like your ISP is at fault here. Try googling them to see if anyone else is having trouble with them as well.

You are sure that you do port forwarding right, right?

There should be no reason to forward anything else, than the port you use as listening/forwarded port, in your router. And in your software firewall allowing Limewire.exe should be enough.

What software firewall do you use BTW? You could try removing the rule about Limewire and readding it.

Also what version of Limewire and Java do you use?

Default Need Help

Hello,

I have a similar problem and cannot find any help. I purchased a lifetime membership to Limewire and recently everything changed in the system and I can no longer access Limewire. I have documented evidence about the membership and in fact Limewire no longer regognizes my username or password. Absolutely nothing has change in my PC. I don't want to spend more money for an upgrade because I already paid for a lifetime membership. Can anyone out there help me or is Limewire a scam?

i reset my router settings and now i port forward only these 2 :-
(50899 : 6346)

I check it with
http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/
also checked with local port scanner

(Port 50899: TCP,UDP) :Open

(Port 6346 :TCP,UDP) :Closed
Error Number: 61
Connection refused!

i disabled my firewall i never use winxp firewall, i use mcafee but i only use it when i have to, it;s not on automatic! it's disabled.

i use lastest Java, just upgraded 1.5.0_09
Limewire 4.12...but i also tried older versions.. i had same prob!

i thought i should continue with my situation..,

after i posted my last thread.., i rebooted and all was good
but the next day back to sqaure one, i have on my pc another winxp as a backup OS, i thought my windows had bad settings, but nothing changed.

i called my ISP again, i googled around i found out that they had troubles and thier upgrading or some sort!
Limewire is okay now, i don't port forward at all, i use uPNP no sepcial settings at all. just install and run simple as that, even works behind my firewall, even behind winXP FW.
now i'm connecting to 8,9 and 10 hosts no BS

what i'm saying is i think most of the problems people have with lime or Gnutella generaly, is thier ISP, just like what happend to me.

my friend has the same version of lime as i do, and he's on a different network (ISP) he never had the problems i had. when it started with me, i did'nt play around with connection setting, it's just degraded till no connection at all.

anyway, i'm a long time user and a big Fan of Limewire...maybe they can do something about our crappy ISP's
or get around these problems somehow.

thanx for u'er help everyone

now let me download in peace
