preview problems limewire

I'm down loading a file that looks like it can be play on windows media player. I went to preview it stated the following: "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player."

When I went back to the file it said a div x player was required to play. I downloaded it but when I go to preview it still opens up media player with error.

Something simple? probably.
Thanks

You might need codecs for your player? You'll find links to codecs within the thread below & also a link to the free VLC player, which has codecs installed & plays most file types. Download from the nearest mirror site.
Codecs & VLC

If you do decide to try VLC, you won't be able to preview or launch within LW. Go to LW library, click on Incomplete Files then explore...the folder opens outside of LW & you can preview from there.
Same deal for launching completed downloads, except you'll click on Saved Files then Explore & launch from there;)

I will try that but how come when I go to LM library it does not have incomplete downloads anywhere?

Where do I save the codecs file to?

You should see Incompletes listed to the left of the library list. If nothing's showing, try clicking on the little black arrows in the top left:confused:

Thanks, I got my preview. Just one more thing if you have a minute? If I want to download to view on portable dvd player. Which files will definitely work? I don't want to spend 4 hours for nothing?

Thank you for your help!!

Do you mean which formats (avi, mpeg etc)? I've only ever converted avi files & am a total newb on the DVD side of things, so I'm not really the one to ask about this:o If you use the forum search to look for burn to DVD, converting DVD or something similar...you'll find lots of old threads & hopefully some helpful info.

Just make sure to check files before download with Bitzi.
