Default Downloaded files but files wont play

Hey there

Am new to LImewire so not 100% sure that what I've been doing is right and have come into a few problems.

I want to download **** series 3 episode by edisode - that is why I installed Limewire basic.

I downloaded episode 1 as a mpg file - it didn't take long to download becauuse it was a small file but when I played it, it only showed the first 30seconds or so.

I decided to download a larger file instead, hoping it would be the whole episode so I chose an avi file which was about 350MB.

First of all it took about 15 hours to download (left it on overnight), secondly, when it finally did download it only played the sound - no images!

Was I wrong to download an avi file? or do I just need extra software to view it properly?

Would really appreciate some help here - I really want to see **** series 3!

What player are you using? Your player might need codecs? Or, if you like, you could try VLC player. It's free & has codecs installed. Check the thread below for links to codec packs & VLC
Codecs & VLC

And also...
Using VLC player (Windows)

Before you download a movie, check the file with Bitzi to see if it's been rated by other users
