Just to the left of the name of the picture on my screen, there is a little red box and when I put the mouse pointer on it, it says, "EasyShare gif". Is this the problem? Thanks.

My .gif files default to Microsoft Picture Manager, but I just opened one with the paint program, too.

I have Windows XP, use Firefox browser, and use Windows Media Player. The problem I am having is I can't open images files. I can download and listen to music but not images.

Something wrong with the default program used for opening such files. I personally use OSX's Preview program or QuickTime. A windows user may have a better option. I believe Windows XP does have image viewing tools. Check your accessories under the start menu. If you find one that plays them then make that one the default.

Click on ANY .jpg, .bmp, gif or .tiff file in Windows Explorer, select OPEN WITH>CHOOSE PROGRAM and choose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or any other picture viewer program you have (maybe ACDSee). Check "Always use the selected program to open this file type.

Hopefully that will solve the problem......
