Videos Will Not Play!!!!!!!!

I have tried downloading different formats but i always get the error message "windows media player cannot support this file" AND this despite the fact that REAL player opens, but nothing plays.

Despite no one bothering to help me with my previous question, I figured out how to not be a freeloader. I'm hoping I can get some help with this issue, don't know what it takes to get a response around here.

Sometimes posts are missed, it's not intentional. We're all volunteers here & help out in our spare time...sometimes nobody is online to answer posts. There's a forum search, it's very good. I wish people would use it. Trouble is, most people would rather post without making any effort to help themselves:rofl:

You may need codecs for your WMP. There are links to various codecs below & also a link to VLC player. It's free & has codecs installed. You can try it if you like.

Thank you so much, I will try that. Now, of course, I have new problems, so I just come off as a pain lol....but i DID do a search first!!!

You may wish to mention what file type they are... ?
You might wish as well, to get yourself DivX.
It's most used player/format currently.
if that does not solve you issue, it may be a simple matter of retrieving the correct codecs.

HI!!

Can anyone please tell me, i've now downloaded VLC...haven't yet installed..but will this interfere with the normal operation of real player or WMP? I mean, will it give me the option to use it as my primary player?

Take care,
Andrea

Hi,

Thanks again for all your help birdy..

I've downloaded DivX and it didn't help. The file I am trying to play is a MPG file.

Can someone give me the link to the page where I can get codecs? And which ones do i need to install? Should I keep DivX if it's not working?

Sorry to ask so many questions but it's been a month now and I'm still unable to watch videos.

:PEACE:

If you click on that 'Codecs & VLC' link in my post (#2)...you'll find links to codecs there. I've used the XP Codec pack for WMP. I think a lot of people also use the K-Lite codecs.

Did you ever try installing VLC? You don't have to make it your default player if you don't want to! I've got WMP & RP & I can still use those players if I choose to (VLC's my default though). I've never tried DivX player, so I can't help you there.

Hi Birdy!

My problem is this..I've downloaded VLC and the codecs. But when I click on the video or hit launch, Real Player opens and says "we cannot play this video..incorrect format". ALso, if I open VLC and try to search for the file, I can't find it for some reason. The directory that it's in doesn't show up!

Maybe if I made VLC my primary player it would use that to open up ? I don't know..this is so frustrating!>!>!>!>

Anyhow, thanks, hope you're having a good weekend.

Try this...

In LW's library, click on Saved Files then click Explore. Your saved folder will open. Now right click on the video file that you want to play > open with > choose program. Choose VLC from the list & see if the file opens using VLC now. Or...just drag the video file from that saved folder onto the VLC icon on your desktop. It should open.

There's some more info about using VLC here, if you need it
