Default Incomplete download stories

Good evening,
I have struck (what I call) a gliche in LimeWire; a little while back (whilst searching for a file), 'Limewire' itself said it had a 'Internal error' which I could review or discard. After choosing both options (one after the other) & LM not responding to either, I closed LW.

On reboot LW advised it could not start my incompleted, which I restarted/resumed all files in 'incomplete' in 'library' (that had worked previously when I had accidentally cancelled files).
Since then I have noticed that my incomplete files (still listing amount downloaded in library and Windows Explorer folder), show as all 0% downloaded in 'search' tab, and none will download (all await sources).

I have reinstalled latest version and this did not resolve.

Hoping someone can see thru this story and advise

With appreaciation

If this had have happened with LW 4.12.6 then you could resume the incompletes & they would have continued where they were. But for an older version LW, unfortunately they will start from zero %. See Downlds refuse to reload (click on link)

Hi LOTR,

Thanks for your response, and the link.
Unfortunately it did happen with 4.12.6 and I did attempt the resume function (as I mentioned earlier) to no avail.

All downloads, have reset to 0% and I am yet to see any of them recommence.
In addition none of the following scenerios occured.
- closing LW down properly before shutting down computer.
- computer crashing whilst LW is still open.
- delete the download.dat file from the incomplete folder.
- reverting back to a much older version.

Looks like I have rewritten the record books, and probably need to research and download them all.

ciao for now

Not something I usually recommend, but since it looks like you tried everything anyway. BTW this doesn't always work.

note: Any other downloads that are incomplete and working will be useless, so you only do this if you have no other incompletes at this time.

1. Copy the incompletes that won't work somewhere else.

2. delete the incompletes in Limewire.

3. Delete the entire incomplete folder while Limewire is closed. A new one will be created upon restarting Limewire, with brand new Downloads.dat and Downloads.bak files.

4. Restart Limewire and search for the same downloads. If you find them start the downloads. These of course must be the exact same downloads.

5. Close Limewire and replace the new incompletes with the old ones. Make sure that you change the old filenames to match the new filenames exactly.

6. Restart Limewire. It should recheck the downloads and find out that you already downloaded part of them.

Good Luck (And as noted above. This does not always work)

IMHO I'm not sure why you'd bother replacing the old ones in that case. Since they will still continue from where the new ones are at. Since the downld.dat file is the record keeping file. If the old downld.dat file was completely corrupted in the 1st instance, then perhaps just doing Sleepless's 1st part of his suggestion (points 1-4.)

* Ah ... I just realised your problem ... until the files recontinue they will show zero %. But after they start downlding they will continue from where they were! So search for the files again on the network & use the 'Get more results' function & perhaps you'll get lucky & they'll restart downlding. If no luck after a persistant effort, then do Sleepless's suggestion ... at least points 1-4. But simply using the Find Sources / Resume button is NOT a greatly effective technique of finding sources. Search is the best way! You do know about the Get more results search function right? Right-click the search result tab & check the options.

If his problem is them starting at zero % and not getting them to continue. This is the only way to get them going again.

It's only the downloads.dat file that's corrupted, and the new files will be at zero, while the old (useless) files are partually downloaded. With the new downloads.dat file you get connections for the new files, just under a different filename (in most cases). when you switch the files (with Limewire closed off course) and change the old filenames to fit the new filenames exactly, Limewire will in most cases notice that the file is partually downloaded after the switch.

Pointman got this to work, so why shouldn't lethal?

You mean I could bring over a partially downloaded file to your LW or anybody elses & continue it there from wherever it was % downloaded? (without the download.dat file to accompany it that is) If that's true then I'm very impressed LW has finally managed to by-pass the need for a download.dat file because that would mean all downld history is contained in the file itself. If LW can recognise the % of any file downloaded from anywhere with no need for any history of it in the download.dat file. Excellent!

Never tried it myself, but Pointman said that he got it to work.

I got it as Limewire scanning for which pieces are missing on start up. The Downloads.dat file has to be there, because it tells the program that the user is trying to download that file. With enough savvy you could probably edit the file yourself, but I'm guessing it leaves no room for error.

If you delete your incompletes, then start just one download. Download it until about half of it's finished. Now close Limewire and open the downloads.dat file using notepad (or mac equivilant). There sure isn't much info in there.

It really makes sence too, because if people with their 200 incompletes had info on every piece of every download in the downloads.dat file, then Limewire wouldn't finish working on start up.

Thanks for the info and guidance Sleepless and LOTR.
As Sleepless menitoned a couple of times 'it may not work', and indeed it didnt.
Somewhere, somehow I also lost 2/3 of incompletes.

Oh well nothing ventured...Nice to know that LW has enhancements not all of us knew of anyhow.

ciao for now

Well found the thread I was thinking of before. It seems that somehow I forgot that Pointmans downloads.dat file was just fine and he had copied it as well. So sorry about wasting your time with that copying thing:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...021#post222021

But just incase it is that . - thing try opening the Downloads.dat folder using wordpad or something like that and have a look

Also newbee2 had some success with this (involving changing the prefs somehow:
