![]() I've used Limewire on and off for a couple of years. We just got a new computer running an XP Version 2002 SP2, with 2.20 GHz and 448 Ram. I reinstalled Limewire. It's version 4.12.6. For the first few days it seemed to work beautifully, especially now that we switched from dial-up to DSL. However, now it barely ever functions, and I get the "Java.lang.Out of Memory Error", "Detail: Uncaught thread error" pop-up. I've spent over an hour reading many other threads posted here, and tried a couple of the suggestions: temporarily disabling the windows firewall (which is set to include a Limewire exception) and going to the www3.limewire.com6346 (I did not jot it down, so please understand that if this address is wrong, the one I typed in was correct). Disabling the firewall did not remove the brick wall icon. I can find no other firewall on our computer. Att/Yahoo provide the antivirus stuff, but no firewall. And my visit to the www3... test page was unsuccessful. So, something is clearly amiss, but I can't determine what from reading previous entries. By the way, our Java version is 1.5.0_06. Any helpful suggestions? Thanks PS The whole program, before getting the error message, is operating incredibly slowly. I don't mean just the downloads, even highlighting a song or clicking on the download button are long procedures. Last edited by tbolles; January 20th, 2007 at 03:29 AM. |

![]() Here's a few more things to try: 1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) 2. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 3. You could try removing all versions of Java installed, reboot, reinstall Java using the "Offline" installer http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp BTW the test page for the port is http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & still works for me. Should say test worked. |

![]() Thank you. First of all, the test page now works, for whatever reason. As for your suggestions, I took the easier route first. I had not realized that all the downloads I had cancelled were being stored in the incomplete folder. It's now empty. So far so good, but I've only experimented with a file with 12sources, and it downloaded rapidly. If I start having problems again I will reset the "preferences" as you suggested. Thanks again. |
