Default Connection/Download Problems

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Win Xp Home SP2
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall (May have firewall in modem and router also, not sure)
3. How much ram? 512 Mb, I think
4. Hard Disk space available? 27.8 Gigs
5. Connection type? Broadband via satellite
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem[Hughes HN7000S] Router[Linksys WRT54G]
7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Lw[4.12.11] Java[1.6.0]
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Hughesnet
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I'm sharing with a Dell running XP Pro SP2, 8 gb free of 10 gb. The network is disabled most of the time.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? I used LW when I had Dial-up but now that I have satellite it won't work.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

Okay, I set up a static IP for my computer and manually opened the port through the router and Windows firewall. I know that it's better to only have one firewall, but windows won't let me disable it (the buttons are greyed out). I finally got Lw to connect, the little green bars go all the way up but on the connections tab I only have 3 hosts (at the most). I've called Hughes and they said that they don't block p2p connections, all the guy could tell me is that plug-ins were missing and I had to contact the creator to Lw. I've tried other programs (Shareaza and Frostwire) and they do they same thing. When I finally do get a song to start downloading it will only download at 2-4 KB/s and I did 5 speed tests (www.speedtest.net) and I got from 105.8- 106.4 kB/s varying the locations. Please someone help me!!

Dylan.

If you're using basic LW, you'll only connect to 3 ultrapeers

HughesNet will throttle bandwidth if you go over their acceptable bandwidth use threshold...that probably explains your slow speeds.

AFAIK HughesNet also offers security, including a firewall (ZoneAlarm I think). Just a guess, but if you have that firewall as part of your package, it should turn off the XP firewall automatically...which could be why you can't disable it! Sorry if this is off the mark.
If you don't have any other software firewall (1 software firewall & router firewall is ok...just not 2 software firewalls running together), just configure the XP firewall to allow LW.
Firewall setup

Just double check your port forwarding. Log into your router & go thru everything to make sure that it's as it should be.

You could change ports...no guarantee that it will change things but try if you like. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049, or a port in the range of 49152 - 65535. Apply > ok. If you change listening port, you'll also have to change port numbers forwarded thru your router. Port number forwarded & listening port must be the same number.

I didn't install the ZoneAlarms. I just checked the usage and the download threshold is 175 MB, and I haven't met that. I changed the port to 63017 on the router and in LW and added a port exception the Window's firewall, but that didn't change anything. I haven't rebooted so I'll try that and post an edit if it changes anything.
