Question No uploads in Tampa FL Earthlink/Brighthouse cable

I have used Limewire for a number of years, though not recently. Tonight I connected via direct ethernet cable connection with my firewall both enabled (allowing for the usual Limewire ports) and disabled.

I am seeing no uploads from others all evening, except for four small files. I have been on Limewire for 6+ hours and only 4 files have been uploaded by others.

Under Library, I am seeing no "hits" or "uploads" ... the counts remain at 0.

Normally I would see a huge buzz of activity, but nothing.

I have not used Limewire in awhile, but it makes me wonder if Brighthouse cable or Earthlink have begun implementing traffic shaping or other bandwidth throttling techniques.

I tried downloading a small file and was able to, albeit at an abysmal speed of between 1 KB/s up to a blazing 11KB/s. :p

I did a speed test at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and was able to get a download speed of 693.6 KB/s download and 41.9 KB/s upload speed through Atlanta, GA.

I went to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and received "Your test worked!"

In Bug Reports, "Is Connected" is reported as "True" and "Received incoming this session" is "True."

I am connected to 31 Peers and 29 Leaves.

My preferences are set to unlimited download bandwidth, allow 1000 files per person, 6 upload slots, upload speed 191.25 KB/s, allow partial sharing, and freeloading is set to "files you must share to not be a freeloader"; 5, and allow freeloaders rarely.

I have tried my firewall configuration in Limewire Preferences (1) manually with a listening port of 6346 and manual port forward of 6346, (2) using UPnP, (3) using a different port; 50000, for both listen and port forward, shutting down each time to ensure the preferences took.

My version of Limewire is 4.8.1 Pro.

Why am I seeing so little traffic? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

When you go into the connections tab, does it have you listed as an Ultrapeer? Normally you are not connected to more than 5 people at once...if you are an ultrapeer, it will consume more of your bandwidth, and I believe that you will see less uploads. Forgive me if the older version that you use works differently. There should be an option to disable ultrapeer capabilities.

Good Luck

Dano

P.S. You have 6 upload slots and 1,000 files per person...the 'files per person' refers to the number of files someone can download from you at one time

Hi mickjapa108,

Thank you. :) In answer to your question, my Java version is 1.4.1_01.

There is no red "brick" indicator in Limewire indicating a firewall issue; I am familiar with the brick icon, but it is not there.

I am not behind two firewalls. I disabled my Mac firewall, and I do not run any other firewall software.

muhctekdano, I have been both an Ultrapeer and a Shielded Leaf. Neither has affected my uploads in the past. Even if I were an Ultrapeer, as you stated, I can disable it, but doing so shows no effect on my downloads/uploads. I can also control bandwidth, but it doesn't seem to impact my downloads/uploads.

Thanks to everyone for your time.

Hi sonnet.
Sorry about the time lag replying Im on the other side of the world
I dont use a mac so im not sure of requirments, but have you tryed updating
your java to the latest for mac. as you said you havent used L/W for a bit
n Im gessing its old,

If 4.8.1 has become obsolete,4.10.9 Pro is another stable version that still
has chat & works with the new java, save your old installer if you update L/W, then you can change back.
Try the java first, if no help PM me, n I will ge 4.10.9 to you somehow.
Peace.
