issue searching, fake results pop up instantly Bad results are always popping up no matter what I do. I can't get a real search off because of these bad results. What can I do? |
Could you clarify please? What do you mean by a 'bad' or 'real' search? Are the files you download fake or can't you find what you are looking for? |
I too am having this problem. What happens is that no matter what you type in as a search topic, the same 2 files appear instantly. New movie preview - PRIDE - Watch the trailer now and Angola3_Small |
Exactly what the guy above has said! The same files appear with a huge user total of who has it. And nothing else really pops up. |
OK you guys use this link, it will make things clear for everyone, How to filter spam resolts from showing up in search. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=63993 peace. |
That didn't help one bit. Can you tell me how to do this? I am getting fake results, and want to stop that. The fake results dominate my search, and when the high number of fake results it ends my search prematurely. I know the files I am looking for are out there, and the are not working because of this problem. I didn't understand what was in the links or the walk through. It was not very clear. |
I've been getting it too and it really slows down any searches that i do. I started doing some popular searches and those two would pop up every time and be the only results i get for several minutes. Finally got'em filtered. |

how do you take care of them and filter them out? |
What are their exact sizes in bytes? those exact file names get no results, so searching by size is probably the best way to track these guys down. Also, right-click those files, select "Advanced" and "Copy Magnet Links to Clipboard" and PM the magnets to me. I'll run some searches and see if I can come up with new firewall rules for those spammers. |

network for all kinds of stuff like that. One of the features common to all recent versions of BearShare is the ability to set minimum and maximum sizes in searches. This comes in handy when searching for many of the common worms and spam where the size is known but the filenames are unpredictable. Which size is which? |
What type of files are these? .mpg? .avi? .mov? |
Oh, wait! There they are! Downloading now… ;] |
Gotcha! The spam has an embedded link that would cause Quicktime to send messages back to a hidden tracking server three times during playback. I have that spammer blocked already in the Fullsize Hostiles List. In fact, I decided to block all of their address space because no legitimate gnutella user would have an internet account in there anyway. Code: Registrant: spam gnutella, and blocked their host, Go Daddy Software, Inc pre-emptively. Looks like I guessed right. If you have LimeWire 4.13 you can use my [ fullsize hostiles list] to protect yourselves. Odds are high my blocks on all of Go Daddy will block this stuff. If you want to firewall their asses too, here are their current ranges: Go Daddy Software, Inc:64.202.160.0-64.202.191.255 Go Daddy Software, Inc:68.178.128.0-68.178.255.255 Go Daddy Software, Inc:208.109.0.0-208.109.255.255 Go Daddy Software, Inc:216.69.128.0-216.69.191.255 If you really want to burn their plan use Media Player Classic to watch all .mov files from now on. It has none of those security backdoors so that spammer will never get to track you. The trailer for Pride was pretty good, by the way. Definitely a movie you'd take the girlfriend to see. |
Note to the Skyrider folks: You'll get a lot further in your business plan if you just avoid flooding people's searches. Keep it down to just a few sources at a time and people won't get angry at you for what amounts to sabotage of their ability to use the network you are trying to depend upon. Play nice or get out of our sandbox. :p |
I downloaded limewire 4.13 but I can't find where to put the hostiles.txt file. I do not have a .limewire folder anywhere on my computer. I installed limewire to the D: not the C: but like I said I can't find a .limewire folder anywhere. |
START/My Computer/local disc C:/ Documents & settings/Your User Name/Application Data/LimeWire. If you cant find Application Data Folder,GO to Tools/folder Opions,& tick, show hidden folders, You can put the setting back afterwoods to protect your computer. |
It also depends on which operating system you have. Search your disk for "limewire.props" and that's where you want to put the list. In Windoze, look for "C:\Documents and Settings\You\.limewire" (Note that it's not in the Application Data folder and starts with a dot.) |
I'm using windows xp home. Searching my disk for "limewire.props" returned no result. I put the Hostiles.txt file in Application Data/Limewire, though, and it appears to have fixed the problem (same as the original poster's problem). So I'm happy now, thanks guys. |
I still can't get any good results. |
Are you still getting the bad results? |

Here's another server farm feeding us this stuff: TMT TeleService GmbH & Co. KG:88.209.0.0-88.209.63.255 Time to update the list. Please stand by… ;] |
Okiedokie, it's ready to go and deployed to all my usual download sites. [ The TechNutopia Fullsize Hostiles List for BearShare and LimeWire] |

can be more than one personal settings folder I have to be aware of in order to deploy the list reliably. My ".limewire" folder dates back to the first time I installed and used LimeWire and newer versions apparently accepted it. …Or is it the other way around, and .limewire is the newer location? It also appears that a lot of people on Windows are going to have difficulties installing the list on their own because the "Application Data" folder is usually hidden from view because of Windows default settings. Whether browsing for the folder or searching for it, Windows hides it because it's hidden attribute is set. I wonder If I can convince Sam to load it from somewhere more accessible, like the program folder instead… Naah! I'll cobble together an installer instead with the help of my buddies at TechNutopia. We've been thinking of cooking up a new version of BearDiag to help people with LimeWire problems anyway. |
