Unhappy downloading speed

hmm...
downloading speed for a movie avaragely...2-5KB/s....does that sound crazy to anyone? checked everything, firewall; portforwarding etc...
Is this actually an ISP's problem (lagging with broadband?) or there might b incorrect setting within LW?
Help Help

Jess.

Erm...you're in the BearShare forum.
Download speed depends on your connection speed, host(s) connection speed, how many hosts you're downloading from, how you have your LW confiigured, whether your ISP is traffic shaping etc. Who is your ISP?????

Download a file from here & see what speed you get

I m sorry may I be directed to the right forum then...(what is BearShare? ..confused*)
My Download speed is meant to be on max according to my ISP which does not indicate the exact speed just as fast as my phone line has allow. I cant see the host(s) connection speed coz they are ultrapeers?! (dont know what that is either..) and at the moment I m downloading it from 5 hosts with 1-2KB/s sorta speed.
ISP is Xtra and obviously I ve got their broadband package (have got told they r **** when it comes to faster internet).
I m not quite sure what u mean when u say how my LW is confiqured. I read a couple of threads and it should be on the right settings....and the file that I m downloading is currently sitting at the speed of..wow around 70KB/s...fast as!!...

I m so confused...someone help!!&&#$^*^

What plan are you on? There's a fair use policy that applies to the Go Large plan.

And here's some more info

You can do a speed test here & find out your download & upload speeds. Don't have any other programs running while you do the test.

Once you know your speeds, use the guide here to configure your LW.

I m on "Go Explorer" <---new from Xtra, more or less a replacement of some sort that offers 10GBs per months on a flat rate
I did the speed test, They dont have a server on map of where I m so I just choose the one thats the nearest (6 hrs away) does that matter?
<----thats the speed its pretty **** when I did the comparesion with the rest of my country...*sigh

Now with the configuring for LW, what i dont get is the meter of upload and download do not go up any further than my speed? why is that?

*extremely confused..

p.s. is it normal to have that brick in front of the globe? cant get rid of it!!

Go to LW's tools > options & set your speed as cable/dsl. Set your downloads as unlimited & your uploads at about 13KB/s.

That 70KB/s download that you saw earlier is about the best you'll get, based on your speed test.

Now for your brick wall Go back through & double check your port forwarding setup. Make sure that the port forwarded, LW's listening port & port number in the 'manual port forward' box are all the same number. Also double check your XP firewall config.
Firewall setup

If port forwarding's still not working...does your router support UPnP? I think it does. Enable UPnP in the router & then choose the UPnP option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Apply to save a change.
See if that gets rid of your firewall.

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below ( & also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past).
Fixes for LimeWire

This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them. So reset your options for port forwarding again & see if that helps (last ditch effort).

Application Data's hidden by default. You'll have to show hidden files & folders to view it.

If you've got an old .limewire preferences folder, delete that. Now make sure you've shown hidden files etc & go & see if there's a folder called LimeWire (not .limewire) within App Data. If it's there, delete it. If it's not there, restart LW, go to your optioins & see if all the settings there are different to what you had set. Go right through options & reset everything. Apply to save your changes then restart LW again.
