Problems with the search

I was using Limewire the other day and now when i go to search for things nothing shows up it doesn't want to search at all....... i don't get it:confused: PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wondering why April 13th, 2007 02:12 PM

Go to your connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...
It is also wise to go to your Filters, to find this go to Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply...
204.11.219.225
204.11.219.226
204.11.219.227
204.11.219.229
204.11.219.231

Edit: Also add this one, copy-paste into your Host filter:
203.171.192.*

If you're using LW 5, there's no Connections tab. In LW go tools > advanced tools...there you'll see which hosts you're connected to & can right click on a host > remove.

To find the filters in LW 5, go tools > options > advanced > filtering. Add IPs to be filtered here & click ok to save the change.

If your not already, try using PeerGuardian 2. It works like a mini firewall for while your using p2p apps. They maintain block lists that block unwanted ip's. Possibly that's why i havent had that problem. Those ip addresses may already be on the block list.

wondering why April 13th, 2007 11:55 PM

Good point 6_Pac i haven't had a problem either and I use Peerguardian..;)

birdy April 14th, 2007 12:01 AM

I haven't had PG2 on all the time (it's being a pain with lists) but I've got Aaron's blocklist in my prefs...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=53973
...maybe that's why I'm not seeing these poxy connections??

Sorry to hijack your thread, Renee:blush2:

Is it only 4.13 that will except Aarons Hostiles List, or can it be used in earlier
versions of LimeWire.
And for every one reading this, How do we put this into action.

P.S.. 3 Cheers n thanks to Aaron :PEACE: :PEACE: :PEACE: :PEACE: :PEACE:

birdy April 14th, 2007 02:45 AM

From what Aaron said it's working for 4.13 onwards. I've been using it from 4.13.0 & am now using 4.13.2

And as for how to use it...
Quote:

LimeWire users:
Place "hostiles.txt", into LimeWire's settings folder.

On Windows : C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\.limewire
Alternate location: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\Application Data\Limewire
(You may have to change a setting in Explorer to be able to see this folder.
Go to the Tools menu, then Folder Options, switch to the View tab and turn on "Show hidden files and folders".)

On Mac OSX : Macintosh HD/Users/YOUR_NAME/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
Mac Classic : System Folder/Preferences/.limewire
That's what I've done;)

AaronWalkhouse June 14th, 2007 10:51 PM

Everybody should update to 4.13.8 now.
It fixes a torrent bug as well as a few others.

Lime Wire » Download LimeWire Beta

Pro users can get it from their personal download page.

That's how to filter out those dodgy hosts;)

If that doesn't work, you could also try these:
1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

I've tried everything listed and nothing is working. I was downloading 2 days ago with no problem and today the wheel just keeps spinning. I am on windows xp.
Can anyone help me?

birdy February 29th, 2008 09:19 PM

Is LW properly connected (all green/blue connection bars)?

If you changed the license warning option, did you make sure to click Apply then ok to save the change?

After you deleted the prefs folder, did you have to go thru the setup wizard again?

Has your setup changed at all since things were working properly (eg new software, software upd@te/upgrade, new hardware)?

Please give us your system details.

Could you be a little more specific? What exactly is the problem that you are experiencing?

Could you post your details?

Cambrai April 3rd, 2008 11:10 AM

As the first post states, when I do a search I get no results whatsoever. This has happened before. Last time I updated my limewire and it started working again. This time I have updated my limewire, installed PeerGuardian and altered my filter settings and am still unable to get search results; I just get a blank page with no information.

As far as system details, I can't be specific because Im unsure. Im on Windows XP and have been using limewire successfully for about two years.

I did not use the last advice regarding the blank page as I can see limewire and all the buttons etc. For some reason without me changing anything additional it has begun working again.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help, I appreciate it.

I've had problems with LW searching and not returning anything and this worked for me.

another searching question

Thanks for all these helpful links, guys. I was having the exact same problem. Now that I am able to search and get results, what type of files are designated for movies? I'm getting multiple formats for one search, is there anyway to "check" the file to make sure it's what you wnat before you download?

Thanks! :Smilywais:

Lord of the Rings January 28th, 2009 01:01 PM

Bitzi is a great help; Movie download issues (click on blue link) :)

heybetty January 28th, 2009 04:25 PM

Lord of the Rings-
Thank you for the Bitzi link. Utilized that. One question though, are there ANY actual REAL movies available for download on LW. I really don't care for porn and I paid a significant amount of money to be able to download "thousands" of movies. Am I missing something here, or have I just been seriously duped?

What's the deal?

Lord of the Rings January 28th, 2009 05:05 PM

Anything above 500 MB is usually safe. :) Don't forget about Bitzi; that's user feedback on particular share files. ;)

heybetty January 29th, 2009 09:35 AM

Lord of the Rings-

TY for the info, but still........are there any REAL films available for download and if so, how on earth does one go about finding them?

I search for a new movie title....I get a few options which are either commercials or porn. I search for old movie titles, again, commercials or porn.

??????

Lord of the Rings January 29th, 2009 10:36 AM

There's a trick to using the search. Search only one search criteria such as title or star etc., otherwise it seems to invite lots of spammed junk. Same principle as described here: How to find music
