Question movie downloads unknown file format

my limewire was working fine til i downloaded the newer version then every time i download a movie or clip etc it says movie(1) etc no title and the file format is not real player it is a little exe box with icons in it, when the file downloads i try to view it in realplayer and it says unknown file format, i tried uninstalling the new version and reverting back to my old version but with no success...any help would be great.

It sounds very much as if you are downloading a progamme which I think may well contain a virus or two

Please make sure you are using a frequently updated anti virus programme, and scan anything you download from the gnutella network.

On no account try to open what you have downloaded. Delete it. If you have difficulty deleting it let us know, also if you want more advise about virus protection.

If you are planning to download a movie, right click on it in the search pane, and select advanced>look up with bitzi and you will be taken to a web page of the bitzi site, where you will see if a good or bad report is made about the file. I always use it for movie downloads, and if I see no report I tend to leave well alone....

I hope I have understood your post correctly. Your exe box with icons in it, I first assumed was what you have downloaded, or is it what you see in the search window? What extension does the file have?

no its not that, for example when if i wanted to download ******, i search ****** find the file and it states quality and how many stars, # ,? showing realplayer icon, name- ******, Type either mpeg/mov/exe/avi etc, Size and so on. it so i click the film i can click all of them for all it matters the outcome is always the same, the film goes to the bottom box to download and when it loads in there it comes up with the little exe box with icons init and instead of saying ****** in the name it says Movie if i have downloaded more than one from that search it says movies(1) (2) and so on does that make sense now? its really bugging me. i can play the files in VLC but not in realplayer or wmp
