Default file downloaded 51% suddenly becomes 12%

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem when downloading a file of 1.3GB

First time, downloaded until 56% .. then suddenly .. it went back to 45%

Today, it happened again .. downloaded 51% .. but all of a sudden .. it went back to 12%

This is very frustrating because it took such a long time to have downloaded to 56%. If this problem kept on happening, I am not sure when I will be able to complete my download. This problem also happened when I was downloading other files.

Does anyone experience the same problem like me? Is there any solutions to this problem?

Any kind advices or solutions would be truly appreciated.

Thank you and regards,

Jason

There's one explanation here.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...1&postcount=17

What version of LW are you using? The same kind of thing happened recently here
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=68961
Try using a different version of LW & see if the same thing still goes on. Could be a bug?

Is it happening with heaps of files? Has it always happened, or just started recently? If it's not a bug, I'm really not sure why this would happen a lot, maybe an overly aggressive firewall?? Sorry I can't help more, give us your system details & it might help someone else to get more of an idea what's going on.

hi birdy,

thank you so much for the prompt reply and the tips. i really appreciate it.

this problem doesn't happened to a lot of files. So far, there's only 2, thank god!

I placed the cursor on the file and the info told me that more than 500MB of the file is corrupted. This is very strange that such a HUGE file corruption happened in the middle of the download. I noticed it was 51% before I went to get a drink. When I came back, I was shocked that the download dropped to 12%. I had spent more than 1 month downloading this file because I am only getting 1 - 5Kbps and this is really really frustrating ...

I am using LimeWire 4.12.3 Pro and java 1.5.0_06. I'm having broadband connection at home, 2MB download and 1MB upload, Windows XP SP2, 1GB RAM, 60GB free disc space.

I believe there is a bug in this version of LimeWire Pro that I'm using. Is there any more stable and trustworthy version out there? Can anyone kindly recommend me a better version?

Thank you so much guys!!!

Kind regards,

Jason

Your Java's pretty old, try updating it. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your old Java version before you install the new one.

Are you checking files with Bitzi before download? If other users've rated the file, you'll get some idea of content & quality (there are some shockers out there that aren't worth downloading). It's possible that you've found 2 crappy files!
How to use Bitzi

That other thread I linked to suggested a bug in the Beta versions 4.13.0 & 4.13.2. I had no trouble with the 4.12.3 as far as I can remember. If you want to try a different version, download the latest stable release or Beta basic...test it out!

hi birdy,

thanks again for the prompt reply and the Bitzi tip. honestly, i was not aware i can check the file before i download ...

actually, the 2 files that i had mentioned were not crappy at all. i managed to download the first one after 2 corruptions. the quality was pretty good. whereas for this second file, i did preview it a couple of times .. and it was good too. so, i don't think it's the file that was giving me problems.

by the way, i had downloaded the java offline installer. but .. how do i remove the old one? is it through control panel - Add/Remove program? if so, do i need to reboot my PC before I install the new version after the removal? care to advise?

thanks birdy, you've been so helpful ...

kind regards,

jason

Yep, uninstall Java thru add/remove programs.

I think the super-careful way to do your Java is to download the installer. Reboot. Install new version. Reboot. Do it that way.
I'm a bit slack...I usually just reboot the once (you'll be prompted to reboot after installing the new version)
