Download/connection problems

Hi,

Windows XP Home
Windows/McAfee Firewall
Not sure how much ram
Free space 33.5GB
Connection Broadband through wireless
TalkTalk Broadband/Linksys Wireless
Connect from house
Lmewire 4.12.2
Java 1.5.0-11
isp is TalkTalk
'Your test worked'
2 other laptops use connection
I have used Limewire for a couple of years
Interface appears for 10 seconds then disappears

I have used limewire for many years without problem. Last week everything seemed to change. I can now only get connection quality of 3 or 4 bars, there are less download choices. The maximum download speed is 1 or 2kbs then 0. Nobody seems to be able to upload from me. Can someone please help me

Steve

First of all, Talk Talk are known to throttle p2p so that could explain your slow download speeds. Check out this thread & the links within it.

Don't use 2 software firewalls together, they'll interfere with each other. Pick one, configure it to allow LW & turn the other one off.

Try updating your Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your old Java version before you install the new one.

Do you mean that the firewall icon appears for 10 secs & then disappears? If the interface disappeared I don't think you'd be able to use LW:D

If your firewall icon's disappearing, that's good. Just in case, what's the model of your Linksys? You could try changing LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config) to 64049, or something in the range of 49152 - 65535. Any ports forwarded thru a router will have to change as well;)

In LW tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. If it's false, you can't recieve incoming connections from other computers & so people won't be able to download from you.

Do the other computers have the same slow download problem? If they do, I'd be thinking it's a Talk Talk issue. Have a look through those threads & see what you think.

Thanks for all your help.

It is definately talktalk that is the problem - is there any way round it or do I have to look for a new provider?

It is just the wall that appears for 10 seconds and then it disappears leaving the world icon.

It states received incoming this session - true (it has let me download 1 x song this evening)

All other laptops have the same problems

I'm not sure how to remove old java and what java I should replace it with.

My version of linksys is WAG54GS
