![]() Have spent four hours perusing loads of previous upload questions/answers...no luck. I am using Xp Pro w/SP2 at 1.4MHz, 1.28SDRam for LimeWire 4.13.2 BETA and have had no Download problems (tried posting in BETA forum and was directed here by Kathy). However, under previous IP hook-up had slow 256Kbits p/sec max, allowing only 33KBYTES down and 14KBYTES up. When sharing for days my MAX was never above 3KBYTES p/sec up. Not a novice and assume all settings correct. Changed IP service three days ago to 5Megabits p/sec; 625KBYTES p/sec down, 125KBYTES p/sec up. Difference dramatic in all I'Net usage EXCEPT in LimeWire sharing UPloads. Astonished to find my LW UPloads STILL stuck at 3KBYTES p/sec. Read Mr. Lee Evan's advice carefully about 'Forcing my Ip Firewall' on Gnutella. His instruct; Tools/Option/Advance/Firewall, then enter my IP number did NOT work. Couldn't get to 'Firewall' to enter number. If this feature is only available in LW Pro, President Evans should say so in these instructs; I am using free. Despite being a veteran journalist, I still try and give everyone (companies incl.), the benefit of the doubt. But after a few posts, am no further ahead, even with a President, LW staff, moderators, and senior members advice. For this new Junior Member, is there any HELP out there, PLEASE. ![]() I found some articles that suggest Eastlink is limiting access to BitTorent protocal by limiting upload bandwidth. http://www.halifaxlive.com/content/view/537/2/ The Future Environment of Canada’s Broadcasting System: Empty Pipes?(pdf) It's just one line in a large file, but it's in there. The fact that you can d/load at normal speeds but only upload at 3KBs points to your isp as the source of your slow upload speed. Some would say not to look a gift horse in the mouth. You'll probably just have to be happy with that unless you can switch to another isp. For firewall problems, see: Connection problems? Check here first!. Force ip is no longer used. Try http://portforward.com/routers.htm. Set up a static ip first.

![]() Hello 6Pac: That is about the best and most informative answer post I have received in years. I have a big fridge, so drop in anytime. Many thanks for top-notch info and links. Just to trouble you a bit more; in my LimeWire 4.13.2 BETA, under Tools-options, BitTorrent is listed for various set-ups. I have never downloaded BitTorrent, but did set-up selects any way. Is LimeWire sort of the parent manager of BitTorrent like it is with Gnutella? Have never downloaded Gnu either, but assume I am using it, but not sure if I am also accessing BitTorrent thru LimeWire as well. Which leads me to 'Azureus', which your data told me bypasses the UPload shaping that ISP Eastlink is obviously using. Azureus 2.5 (latest) info says it works for BitTorrent, so not sure if it works for LimeWire too. Not going to download Az 2.5 until I hear from you. Please post reply soon so myself and others can see this fast-growing limiting/shaping by ISP's everywhere is a serious problem for everyone who wants to maintain a fair share ratio. The whole valuable concept is built on it. Again, many thanks for excellent reply. Regards, caseybob |

![]() Hi caseybob, Any relation to Bob Casey, a Senator from my state. I voted for him ![]() From that article(it is more that a year old), I get that Azureus is encrypting the file bits before sending them out, effectively camouflaging them so isp's don't recognize them and restrict their bandwidth. I think that only works for people using Azureus, because once recieved, the bits would have to be unencrypted. Azureus from what I've heard is a good program and you should give it a try. Here's the link: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ LimeWire doesn't use encryption, so it probably won't work for you as far as uploading(sharing) files goes. LW is just another client that can handle BitTorrents, there are quite a few that do. It's a relatively new feature in LW and is only available in the Beta release. I don't have much experience with torrent files. I've only d/loaded one so far. Torrent files aren't shared the same way other files are in LW. You have to go to a site that offers torrent files(try googling) and and click the d/load button for the file you want(similar to magnet links), and the file wil be sent to LW. Once there it may take time for it to find sources to get the file from. Also I don't think LW keeps track of the share ratio like other bt clients do. Remember it's still pretty new for LW and I'm sure it'll be improved in future releases. There's a BitTorrent faq here: http://dessent.net/btfaq/. It has a lot of info if you feel like reading. Hope this help a little. My knowledge is quite limited ![]() ![]()

![]() Dear LW users: First, my thanks to 6 Pac for great help in running down throttle problems with ISP's. You can see from my earlier posts that despite new service package that is 8X faster (now, 128KBYTES p/sec UPload) than old slow package, my LWire uploads are STILL stuck at tiny 3KB's p/sec. Although admitting they use throttling with P2P like most popular ISP's, the supervisor said they are not THAT harsh, and politely suggested there is something wrong with my computer. He helpfully changed interior address on my cable modem (no result), and suggested running 'Network' in Safe Mode, benchmarking LWire on somebody elses laptop who has same ISP provider (his), then hooking up same laptop to my connection and see what happens. It could well be the answer, and I must admit 'Eastlink's' tech support is excellent 24/7. Another Canadian ISP 'Rogers', huge in Ontario, is listed as being very severe with P2P throttling. Will try the Supervisors tests soon as get moment to find out if this bit above average user does have problems with computer, not ISP. But, fact remains that ISP's are using better & better programs to increase severity of P2P throttling. Like to hear from anybody with thoughts on this subject. Regards, caseybob |
