Default Pulling hair out at suc slow download speeds!!

Have been a limewire user for well over a year, but since moving home and reconnecting, my download speeds have been soooo slooooow!

Managed to 'port-forward' today! And got rid of that brick wall - great I thought.....but no still can't get anything other that very slow downloads.

I've tested my download speed and its really good - can anybody help!!!

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? BT HomeHub
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) House

Old Slow Hand Hi.

BT has a fair user policy, So P2P is not working from 6pm to 11pm I think.
If you have many large avi files to D/L try letting them D/L overnight, or set it to run while your at work.
Click on this blue link, it will open on Bt Hub page to configure it for L/W.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

XP firewall on or off.?
Go Start/Control Pannel/Security Centre/Windows Firewall,& turn off XP F/W, 2 firewalls active at the same time may conflict.

Update your java its a little old.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
Java SE Downloads
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.
Peace.

angel Hi.
JDK java is not correct, You should use the JRE 5.11 or even JRE 1.6 not the
JRE 1.6.u1 it has issues.
If you paid for Pro less than 6 months ago, I would Download 4.13 beta Pro
also, Now before your subscription runs out.

Chat is fixed in the new beta, so even if you don't want to install it now, Get
it & store all your L/W installers in a folder, Then you can always GO back to
an older version, anytime you choose.

Sounds like things have become jumbled. Lets try a clean up.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get jre-5.11 Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads...jdk5.jsp...ITS the 5th one down.
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

OH!!! Angel Turn your XP firewall on & restart your computer before you install L/W, then Give access when L/W applies.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace
