Default Need More Sources

Hi,
I have been using LW for nearly a year now, and find that downloading 'Video' items are usually hit or miss. Some items download alright with good speed, but the majority try to connect and then read 'need more sources'.

The main difference I notice is when the 'Browse Host' icon is lit up, the download seems to work. Does this have to be lit up to allow the download to occur?
How can a search yield over 6,000 results, but not one 'Browse Host' icon will lit up and as a result none will download?

I have read several postings and I am aware that there are many 'fake files'. I have also deleted my '.limewire' folder and reset the preferences; as well as went through 'tools' - 'options' and changed settings but this did not change anything.

I am not very computer savvy, but my system info is as follows:
  • what OS version?
    • windows xp
  • What firewalls you have ?
    • Norton internet security
  • How much ram ?
    • 512 MB
  • Hard Disk space available ?
    • 60 GB hard drive
  • Connection type?
    • Broadband
  • Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
    • ??
7. Where are you trying to connect from ?
a. House
8. What version LimeWire & Java version.?
4.12.11 & 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
a. Eftel
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
a. Your test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
a. sharing connection with other computer

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
a. Ongoing problem

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
a. Yes, but able to download
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
a. Yes? - no problems downloading certain items
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off?
a. ??

Just wanted to know if there is anything else I can do or try to get better download success with search results yielding so many hits?

Thank you.

Let me guess...you're trying to download a movie that's brand new, right? When a new movie comes out, spammers flood the network with fake files, trying to frustrate anyone who would try to download the movie. If the movie isn't even comercially available, yet, I wouldn't waste your time. The best you're going to get is a 'cam' version (where someone sneaks a camera into a theatre).

Any movie with 100 sources is probably fake. We usually recommend files with 10-20 sources at the most. Limewire won't allow you to download from more hosts than this, anyway.

Good Luck

Dano

Thanks for the advice.
Xcom46 - I tried these tips and there was no difference in download success.
muhctekdano - my problems with downloading don't necessarily related to brand new video's, but the searches that I am performing are showing up with 100 sources.
Thanks.

USE BITZI LOOKUP
when you see a file in search eg.. avi, mpg, mpeg you want
Right click/advanced/look up file with BITZI, if its not reported on leave it, till it is,
Now music, is not so easy,
The Newer they are, the more careful you must be.
The record company's are putting swarms of fakes on the network,
Take note of size, Songs less than 2000kb with 128kb bit rate, must be less than two minuets.
THINK!!, how long is the song I'm looking for ?
so what size SHOULD it be,
If it dos'nt have a bitrate! LEAVE it,
Scan every File before OPENING them
Don't D/L exe, rar, zip,or wma files. I am expert at using LimeWire & I don't touch them they are 99.9% viruses.
We only use these for testing anti virus programs.

P.S.. Add these words to your word filter .exe .rar .zip .wma That will stop 50% of crap search results, Don't forget to apply.

Peace.
