Default Some Newbie Questions

Hopefully this is the right forum for this...

I'm a relatively new user with some technical background (and by this I mean very little), and I'm just trying to get a full understanding of some of the features of Gnutella clients. I've downloaded limewire, as it seems the most popular. Anyway, here are my questions:

1. Does Limewire Pro buy me any nifty tricks? For example, can I search by the SHA hash value? Is there a way to do this in regular old limewire?

2. For security purposes, if I put the download slots per user to 0, and the max slots to 0, is there a way for people to download files off my system? What about if they use a different client? For example, can a BearShare user download these files regardless of whatever else I do?

Thanks for any help guys and take care!

1. Thanks

2. I realize how it sounds. But really, my concern is regarding security and control over what's going off my system. I've got no problems sharing what is on my system; I just want to be able to monitor. Since I'm on my computer for 12-15 hours a day due to work, I figure this largely won't be an issue. However, I do want to be able to disable downloads when I'm not on the system.

Hopefully this rests your fears and will allow someone to provide me an answer...

Yes. If you change your upload slots to '0' then people shouldn't be able to download anything from you. However, if you are careful to only share those folders that contain files that you want to share, then you shouldn't have to be so concerned with 'monitoring' what people are downloading from you.

Good Luck

tha7rie. Hi.
OK so Did you get limewire to scan your computer on setup, there was an option, if you did and made other folders shared by accident.
You can Uninstall L/W, & reinstall , this time when L/W offers to scan for other folders tick NO
then only files in your default "shared" folder are possible to upload from you.
To make a particular file not shared, highlight it in Library click explore bottom
left corner, it will open up in your windows shared folder then cut & paste it to another folder.

even if you only share 5 pic files, your not a leech, there are many legal files
no one is asking you to break your laws.
Peace.

Tha7rie

You might want to consider keeping all the files you want to download and/or share on an external hard drive, then there would not be anyway you could accidentally share work and private files with the world.

tha7rie Hi.
Just Right clicking in Library & choosing to unshare is not safe, Cos when you
refresh L/W they automatically become shared again.
external hard drive, sounds good eazali offf n onable!! or create a folder on another Drive.
Peace.

My friend downloads files from usually 6 to 10 hosts, but I can't ever get more than 2 hosts. Is there a way to change that?

Thank you in advance for any help.
