Nobody can see my shared files.

Ok i used to have dial up internet and everyone used to be able to see and download my shared files.
But recently i've switched to 256kbps broadband [I use the ethernet way not usb] and nobody seems to be able to see my shared folder. I made sure that i am actually sharing the files and i am.

I'm running Windows Xp SP2, i haven't installed any programs or updated anything like windows update.
I have no programs that are blocking limewire and that includes my firewall.

Had this happened before, and any suggestion on how to fix it? :aweof:

Are you saying your friends using Limewire can't see your files on their computers when they search?

Tools...Options...iTunes...bug reports...View example.

Scroll down to the bottom. Does the last line say true? I think it has to say true in order for others to download from you.

Maybe since you moved to broadband, you've started using a modem/router with an internal firewall??

If you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe) then chances are that people can't download from you. Or, if you have a really early version of LW that doesn't show the firewall indicator...like Dano said tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. If it's false then you can't recieve incoming connections from other computers (usually a firewall issue).

You need to give us your system details.

ok, i had a lookup and when i connect with dial up there is no brick wall in front of the globe, but when i connect via broadband the firewall appears. so ill take a look at my external moderm for broadband and see if i can manage the settings.

ok in relation to these questions:
Quote:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
1. Windows XP SP2

9. Bidpond
10. Says "Your test worked!"
11. No.
12. I've used limewire before but only on dialup, as soon as i switched to broadband i got this problem.

Forcing your Ip for Limewire.

Ok, i've finally figured out my problem why people can't download from me (i can't upload). It is because of my SpeedTouch 536 v6 ADSL Moderm. It has a NAT IP. So i just need for someone to explain how i force my ip. Thanks.

I got this information from this:
Quote:

3. Finally, if you are using NAT (meaning that the IP address of your machine is 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x ) now, might be able to connect, search and download from the network but no one will be able to upload from you. If you have taken the advise of others to force your IP using limewire then your half way there, as your port forwarding is working correctly. But, you need to FORCE THE IP OF YOUR ROUTER or FIREWALL to the network. To find out what your ip is from the machine that you use to get on Gnutella open a web browser to WhatIsMyIP.com - 75.126.211.154
(write this IP down and force this IP in Limewire) If you need help testing this Just post a reply to this thread.
That is taken from this thread - http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...-limewire.html

Thread merged.

The 'force IP' option doesn't exist in later LW versions.

First of all, make sure that your XP firewall's configured to allow LW.
Firewall setup

Then you could try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Alcatel SpeedTouch 536v6
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within a router must all be the same number;)

Covey May 25th, 2007 06:59 AM

Ok, i did ALL of that thanks birdy.
And the brickwall seems to have dissappeared when i open limewire. Ill leave it open over night and see if people can download from me.

ill reply tomorrow with my results, thanks guys.
