"for security reasons"?

Hey, someone please help me out.

I used to have lime wire, but recently i purchased lime wire pro for turbo charged downloads. However i can now not play pc games, it still lets me download them ok, but however when i go to install/run them limewire displays a message, "Limewire will not lauch the specified file for security reasons" and this is not just with the odd file, all game programs now display this problem. Does anyone know how to avoid this, or how to change some options to stop this? please reply, thank you.

really?

Are you sure because even my old ones i used to play on are now displaying security files etc? It is possible for some of the files to be corrupt or fake etc, however it can't be the reason for all of them
none of the programs are working?

You can only launch media files such as audio, video or image files via LW. For programs LW won't allow you to. It will give you a security error. The reason is because it may have been infected with a virus but might not have been. It's just a security measure to safeguard both LW & your computer. If you wish to open them then go to the folder & open it. For fast & easy access, go to your LW Library window, select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link) & the folder will open up for you.

Same problem

Im a bit of a low-level computer user so u might have to use simple words but ive had teh same problem. i followed the instructions u gave and tried opening it that way but it still doesnt work. it says that windows cannot open the specified file for security reasons now, what should i do?

What type of file are you trying to open? If it is a program, it is most likely infected. Try scanning the file with your antivirus software.

Good Luck :rolleyes_2:

Will AVG do?

ive tried to open a few programmes ive downloaded and AVG said they all had trojans attached to them so i clicked "Heal" and the file disappeared. i tried turning AVG off but it still wont let me open the file. the wording of the error message is "windows explorer cannot open this file. you may not have the appropriate permissions", even though i set my limewire to only show legal downloads when i set it up.

Why are you still trying to open the files if your antivirus software is telling you that they are infected? Limewire is not the best place to download programs. I have downloaded many programs, but I have also encountered many viruses and many programs that simply don't work. Also, many will just be freeware/shareware versions.

Hope this helps
